For me BR has always been a manager who isn't afraid to change things when they're not going to plan, or drop a player when they're not playing well or even take a risk with a younger ie Flanagan (where'd he go?)
This season he seems like a different man, some of his decisions have been pure baffling. Persisting with Balotelli as a lone striker? Skrtel and Lovren in the middle still? Johnson playing every game? Same every match, the 4-3-3 and pure and simply it's just not working. I know we have Suarez gone and Sturridge out but the entire flair and spark has been ripped out of our team and I think right now Rodgers doesn't quite know how to fix it. On top of that it looks like we've wasted an awful lot of money this Summer. Balotelli (£16m) is not looking like the player we need, Lovren doesn't look like the commanding CB we expected (£20m?) Lallana in and out of the team (£25m) and Marcovic didn't even make the squad today (£20m)!
I think our team needs a serious reshuffle. We've been worked out and we have no way to counter it. Hands up who thought when we went 2-1 down today, or even 1-0 down to Newcastle last week that we'd get back in to it? Not me. We look like a team bereft of any confidence, a team of strangers. I don't know what needs to change, we don't even look convincing with 2 up top. Sterling looks a bit burnt out, Henderson is losing form and Gerrard carries the weight of all creativity in midfield while having the burden of shielding our awful defence.
I think we need to try a combination of Lucas and Can in midfield, add Toure in defence to replace Skrtel or Lovren, and persist with either Manquillo or Flanagan (when fit at RB). Up top? Well our options look pretty shoddy, maybe try a combination of Borini and Sterling up there? It's got pace in it at least, I just think Balotelli nor Lambert fit the players we have in our team and our play is suffering as a result. Maybe chuck in Coutinho and Markovic and base our entire game around pace and movement, with runners from midfield.
