It was never too bad really because we're a mostly unhatable club and more importantly we always win in Yorkshire. Most people up here don't even know where Watford is (try explaining to a Northerner that a place can be on the London Underground map but not actually be in London.)
True most people quite like us.... Mlle Yorkie even wore her scarf to school on occasion in Leeds.... risky but ok.

I think he is right. Support your local team. The only exception is if you live in Milton Keynes. It is okay to have a soft spot for your parents' team(s) but you shouldn't have to support them unless you live in the same area in which they grew up.
Ah! I need to clarify what I wrote. I mean your local team when you start supporting a team, not the team closest to where you live at any given time in your life.
Yep....I'd go along with that. I was born in Watford and so have always supported them - my son was born in Yeovil and became a Yeovil fan even before they were in the league. So, in that way, the tradition continues. My father was born in Scunthorpe and supported them when he was younger, although I have only ever been there once and so it would have been meaningless to have developed a relationship to them. Having said that - when I first became a fan (late 60s) many Watford fans I knew had a second club. In those days it was possible to just turn up and pay at the turnstiles - and many I knew went to White Hart Lane or Highbury when Watford were away (some deluded ones went to the Bridge ). Around Manchester it was the same with many being fans of Rochdale and United, or Stockport and City - but it should be your local team which comes first.
My Grandfather was a Huddersfield fan because that is where he came from. He introduced me to watford and became a Watford fan but I don't think he lost his support for "Town". Mind you he used to watch them when Herbert Chapman was the manager and they had their glory years. When Town were away he went to see Huddersfield Rugby League. That was the time of their glory years, too. The nearest team to Huddersfield was Leeds, and no one with any self respect went to see them. My dad, on the other hand, was about as interested in football as he was in the migratory habits of 7th century Tibetan monks.
