All the RS fans are out in force post match on their board claiming a moral victory and how they gave Madrid a game. Madrid was hardly threatened and never came out of second gear. The RS GK could be patted on the head like some good boy by the head master (Madrid). "Good job son for keeping it to 1-0". Forgetting that they surrendered before the match with that team sheet and then it was damage limitation all the way.
At least Brenda had the decency to be sheepish when he was interviewed before the match. He couldn't give a good reason but then after the result he recovered his composure as he had not been thrashed.Why go into the CL if you are s**t scared to compete against the big boys??

Nobody is celebrating, we lost! We are happy with a better performance where the players actually put some effort in. You guys got stick because poster like UIR claimed losing 1-0 to Man City was the turning point to winning twenty of your remaining twenty-eight games despite having won just three in ten and none away. There is a difference between being over excited / optimistic and being proud #perspective

Work ethic is everything to me, hence my signature quotes. The likes of Johnson and Balotelli haven't been doing anywhere near enough, maybe Gerrard too.
Surely you should be furious that the players haven't actually put that effort in for the rest of the season?
Like Roy Keane says, no one praises a postman for delivering their letters on time, so why are you so proud that your players appeared to give a **** for the first time this season? Hell, they get enough rest days (and second rest days) to be expected to put a shift in against Newcastle and Hull as well as against Real...

Not happy with two inparticular but there are no secrets as to who they are considering my comments. However, I blame Rodgers for continuously picking them, especially Glen Johnson when we've played many games without him and we always look better for it! He said Gerrard wouldn't play every game but until this last week he was doing and Don't get me started on Mario. I'm not turning on Rodgers but he seriously needs to grow a pair, especially this weekend after the side he picked last night gave such a performance.
Why wouldn't you be proud of players doing what is expected? That is Roy Keane's ridiculous super high expectations. If someone plays very then they get praised for it, if the have a normal game you can still feel proud of them, just don't sing from the roof tops that they're better than Messi

Guess it depends on the situation - if you don't expect players to do what is expected as the bare minimum then you will struggle to ever reach a level at which you can actually compete with the best.
Imo that was a large part of our success under SAF, and Liverpool's underperformance over the same period. It puts more pressure on the players, and there are inevitably those who can't handle it (those you have mentioned and others, as well as plenty for Utd in the past 20 years), but it means those who can handle the pressure do actually perform to their best.
It's a work in progress for Liverpool and Utd at the moment, but it seems Rodgers has definitely gone backwards from the last couple of seasons where he always demanded more, to now being satisfied with relative mediocrity and defending players who aren't trying. As you say, he needs to grow a pair if he isn't to follow Souness, Evans and Dalglish Mk II into the halls of permanent mediocrity.
Alexis Sanchez will prove to be a perfect example of a first season wonder.
