A quote from one of the newspapers...

"Angel di Maria alone cost just £3m less than Southampton’s starting XI against Hull, but United trail the Saints by nine points"

    :)

Difficult to know....do you gloat whilst you can or wait until you are certain? If we start now, we could gloat longer :)

and why not? (and we still have plenty of cash to splash in January) That should cover any injuries that the media seem sure will occur and derail our season. If Ronald and the scouting team can find another Pelle and Tadic in January what a season we will have!

Indeed. Is it better to gloat now and risk upsetting the gloatee but have a shorter period of engloatedness - or wait until the position of gloating is more secure so that the opinion of the gloatee is irrelevant, but run the risk of missing out on a period of engloatedness altogether?

    I'll get my coat...

Should have been .. 'I'll get my gloat', which I guess we might have all guessed. That said if we are still challenging and still in the league cup and FA cup come the end of January, preferably with the acquisition of Ings, I shall be in gloat mode plus, plus.

Injuries are likely to occur. I remember last season for a few games we had key players out. It's all good having the money but it's useless if players get injured mid November. And that's likely looking at the amount of fixtures coming up.

Good news is that Pelle is not injury prone - he played 33 games for Feyenoord last season, missing 4 games for a red card. Neither is Tadic - 85 games in the 2 years before he came to St. Marys

I think we are already enjoying a bit of gloating over the 'big team's below us especially Liverpool and Spurs :emoticon-0131-angel

    Gloat while ye may!

I was swamped by texts over the summer from LFC fans taking the piss about our loss of players - most to LFC, you'll recall. My gloating consists of saying bugger all, except little things like "did you see that Pelle goal"! Loving it.

Every dog has it's day, and I am going to well and truly enjoy ours and big it up, yes they will say it won't last, but they said we were cents for struggling and relegation, and they are now cringing and sucking up to us...but still they say it won't last and that our bubble will burst.........I don't care, if it does that is Saints, ain't it. But if it don't then they will cringe even more, and I will explode with my gloating!

One thing I have noticed by nearly all pundits who are contemplating Saints making the top 4-6 is that they all declare that they want it to happen. Patrick Barclay even went as far as saying that he thought it would be fantastic for the Premier League, and others nodded in agreement [MOTD2 Extra]

So it looks like pundits still like underdogs. Further more, they prefer to see a smaller, less exposed club do well in the PL than any big named club. That's a very old British tradition, and one that I thought had vanished, in this era of SKY Sport pipe fed, glamour club exposure.

And you gloat as much or as little as you want, anytime you want.

Surely that should be "I'll get my gloat".

Oops. It pays to read all the comments before replying.

What you really want is to work for a company where the office is based in France and you have license to book appointments all over Europe :)

We're not allowed to gloat as Carragher says there's no chance we'll get top 4 and a 50/50 chance we'll get top 6...

As for injuries, we were very unlucky to have our injury goalie and to have a crap stand-in. Boruc can be recalled if Forster gets injured. Gardos is better back-up than Yoshida. CMs stayed the same. Also got 3 good strikers when Rodriguez is back compared to two last year after Osvaldo had gone. Got an extra winger in Mane, so we're a lot stronger squad-wise.

They'd beat a cold night in Stoke! If we manage to get into a European competition, fingers crossed for a French, German, Belgium, Spanish team etc. Probably getting a little ahead of myself already ...
