Out of curiosity, where are all the binner legends who opted to settle down in Ipswich after they stopped playing?
Sir Alf - Had a house in Ipswich Sir Bobby - ditto The beat - ditto Alan Brazil - Just outside Ipswich Dyer - Back in Ipswich Matt Holland - Just outside Ipswich Alan Lee - Just outside Ipswich Warky - Just outside Ipswich I could go on but can't be arsed, Also Delia prefers to live in Stowmarket than Norfolk!
Well that statement is utterly meaningless. Long ball is not a long pass. But anyway, I'm glad we have reached an accord.
I take it you have never played the game rob, because if you have you would know different. Long ball is aimless balls into the corner for somebody to chase, we don't and have never done that, we play (i.e. pass) it into the big man to hold up (not flick on) for him to either lay off to goldy or the wide player. totally different gamestyle.
Kevin Beattie still lives in Ipswich, Wren Avenue, my mother occasionally sees him in the Greenfinch Avenue shops, he's happy to stop and chat about all things football and ITFC with anyone who wishes to, top lad our Kev and proper ITFC legend.
Ok, although I shouldn't really be surprised, if you're just on a WUM because it gives you a buzz then I'm out.
totally not on the wum about this subject rob, yes the original thread was supposed to be light hearted and many people took it that way as anybody could see from the start, unfortunately some can't be light hearted and try to make an issue out of anything a ipswich supporter posts on your board, thus causing old wounds to be opened.
Is unadulterated WUM material. That's fine, if it's where you want to go, but I'm not interested. We could debate the finer points of a longball game all day. Of course it's not directionless. But long ball is long ball, safety first, percentage football to me. And I don't mean that in a wholly negative way, as I have maintained all along - it is a skill getting it right which only a few managers manage and if you're happy with it, all the better
The thing that i find crazy rob is the fact that we really don't play that many long passes as a team, we play a high pressing style which means because we win the ball higher up field we then don't have/can't play a 'long ball'. its a myth. And as for Mick being a longball manager, I suppose Kevin Doyle is the perfect foil for that? or SEB? Jonny Williams or even Goldy? again that is a total myth you are dreaming up because of what i can only presume of your hatred of ITFC.
Because it's an Ipswich fan explaining that you play longball you utter muppet. You are on a WUM, aren't you. This, from the Guardian: "Ipswich settled quickly. They are a direct and physically imposing side and McCarthy has them playing to those strengths and in an attacking manner, which means long balls down the channels and crosses into the box for the forwards David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Connor Sammon. " And, incidentally, your first goal against Forest was... wait for it... from a long ball which the defender Lichaj misjudged allowing Murphy in behind. Another for you just for good measure. Case very much closed. I'm very much out.
So basically Rob what you're saying is that a goal is only valid (ie not anti football) if it is made by passing the ball less than 10 yards during the build up! And there you are bemoaning the fact that you dont score from set peices on another thread! You really need to sort yourself out mate. The offside goal you scored against us came from a long ball incidently! Come back when you have a coherent valid arguement mate!
I really don't recall saying that JWM - you're going to have to dig out the post for me where I declared any goal invalid. Or, for that matter, that I see a goal scored from a set piece/long ball/cross as worth any less than any other goal. I really don't remember saying that either. Could you do me a favour and point to where I made these remarks, because I can't defend myself if there's no evidence of me being guilty. Thanks for your help PS, coherent argument: (1) McCarthy is a long ball, direct football style manager (2) Ipswich are playing this way
All i can say is god help you rob when norwich score a goal like that (and they will)! I find it all quite strange considering in the victory over us, most of your chances in the second half were from long balls over our back four for grabban to **** up. but then you really do have a very selective memory as we all know and love. Of course we will score a goal like that, every club does, doesn't mean we are long ball all the while, take the wigan game! right back at ya! any proper football person will realise that, and the ones that don't are either kidding themselves or are idiots that don't really understand the game. All i will say Rob is you are building yourself up for a massive fall in trying to be negative about our style of play.
problem is rob, we answer every argument you give us, but you never admit to being wrong you just go try for a different angle in your bid to try and get brownie points from other city fans. all it does though is make you look more and more silly. so is kevin doyle your first choice of striker if you are a long ball manager or not?
He's basing his whole arguement on the fact that Berra has scored 3 goals from set peices so far this season!
God help us! Why? Any goal is a good one. Ah more unsubstantiated wumming from you as we know and love I have said and always maintained that our game against you was by some margin the worst we have played in the league this season. Correct, which contradicts your comment earlier about God helping us when we score one like that Yes it does. Because you are. By your own fans' admissions. Classy. Yes, that's right, any proper football person will realise that just because one game you play nicely, doesn't mean that's your style. Your style is vintage Mick McCarthy. And you're an idiot who doesn't really understand the game, or simply kidding yourself, if you don't realise that. Probably the wisest thing you've said. Ever. Ah, and now we come to the crux of the matter. Please point to where I have been negative about your style? I need your help here. Looking back at my posts I have time and again praised this style as being the best way for your squad to achieve anything. You are too quick to take offence and, like JWM, need to massively calm down. When you don't have the resources other clubs do, you have to play to your strengths. That's what Mick McCarthy is doing, it's working fantastically well and as I have already said you've good reason to be proud of it. And if you enjoy the style, all the better.
