I was in Huddersfield after the Man City game a couple of weeks ago and there were posters all over town there too advertising it which I never saw in the years I lived there.

I'll probably go for a wander round on a dinner time and get some food from one of the stalls. I've not been on a night since I was 16 and don't expect that to change this year.

Last time I went to Hull Fair I made the mistake of having a beefburger, I had the ****s for a week afterwards & I think it's safe to say that the nearest that burger had come to beef was as the food truck drove past a field of cows on the way.

    I have been many times.
Once again I didn't say it was literally like Blackpool pleasure beach rocking up as that would be impossible. That was why I didn't use that word.

I agree Filey, a great day out & run in conjunction with the North Yorks Moors Railway, with stations along it's route decked out like the 1940's, just a shame it is no longer continued at the Whitby end of the line

The police car was at the garage in Goathland which was used in the Heartbeat series when we visited in May of this year. It has Aidensfield garage on the sliding doors and Scripp's Funeral Services sign above. The owner also has several old Manx Nortons that they still race. Plus the garage is loaded with old memorabilia.

This makes it look good. However, I remember that the Fair is a mecca for the world's worst 'Uglies'......

What a waste of money the rides are. Nothing does anything.

Will have a walk round for the brandy snap and the like. Not to mention a Carvers grease fest.

Used to love the smell & taste of roast chestnuts they used to make on those portable trolley's that carried the coke fired grills. Do they still have 'em at the Fair ?
All the modern hits blasting out over the amps on the rides - especially the "walzers". Spent the summer of '63 working at Brown's Amusements in Brid just to absorb the music they used to play all day long...time when I couldn't really afford to buy more than one 45 record a month. Great memories - lots of birds from all over Yorkshire. Staying away from home was heaven.

With a hippy hat on, I struggle with the engineering and expense of these things, when so much of the world is struggling to have basic facilities.

basic facility being a fifty quid ticket for ull v man city

The shamrocks are at Pickering steam fair / rally every August, along with the wall off death and hundreds of classic vehicles steam engines etc.
    Another great weekend
