As far as I'm aware chunks of the book are given to different people a different times. No one gets the full book. Plus I think people can get bits to read while the book is still being written. I know one of my mates told me a few stories from the Fergie book long before it hit the shelves or the media, but he did ask me not to tell people. I think you have to go through a lot of work and get some certain qualifications etc in order to become an associate.
Slightly off topic but was it ever released who the player was that Fergie said demanded United buy him a block of flats or something to sign on?
Have you applied then ,or are you going too, please do ,If you do and get accepted you will know what it entails ,i can assure you its not the fantasy you have about the subject ,and certainly not anything involved with perks, membership is not sold, its an invitation after you meet a certain criteria. Lets wait and hear what terrys wifes friend has to say about it ,in the mean time do as i suggest and apply
Spoke to him just now actually, says you're talking **** Stu haha I kid, yeah he mentioned he had the opportunity to have his book critiqued by a select few before it hit the shelves. He chose not to as he thought it would never get any recognition anyhow. I'll now go ahead and give Stu the answer his initial comment warranted, apologies Stu.
Don't think so mate, I was always under the impression it was ROoney but I might have just been putting 2 stories together there.
Who can join the SfEP? The SfEP is a professional society for employed and self-employed copy-editors and proofreaders. Desk editors, project managers and other editorial professionals are particularly encouraged to join the Society, and we also welcome anyone who is simply interested in editing and proofreading. Below you'll find the link for individuals wishing to join the SfEP. In addition, we encourage organisations to join the SfEP as corporate subscribers. See the Corporate subscribers section for a full description of the benefits and for information on how to join. How much does it cost to join? Everyone joins the SfEP initially as an associate and will pay the subscription for that grade of membership. In addition, all those joining must pay a one-off processing fee (except students; see section above). Current subscriptions and processing fees (2014/15) Annual subscription for associates: £100 Processing fee for UK applicants: £31 Processing fee for applicants in other countries: £36. Don't believe a word you say fella, there's holes in everything you say.
Hahahahahaha, this thread is ****ing hilarious. I have to admit you for standing your ground Stu despite the groundswell of evidence..... Why not give us a snippet not in the book, as I will be reading it in full and we'll see if it's in there.
not in the book ? tea lady sacked for slapping MR F when he complained about the warmth of his tea and the small number of ginger nuts on the plate
So you think a publisher who will have paid a fortune for a book, whilst insisting on keeping the content secret. Would send it out to loads of random semi amateurs to browse freely? Or are you saying these publishers wouldn't have their own in-house editors and proof readers. Not going to read all that site that Bri posted, but it looks to me as if they are for ordinary authors and individuals. Not top selling authors or books from high end publishers. Can you back up your claim that associates get books a year in advance? I'm not talking about Mrs Smith down the road who has wrote a love story and sent it to a proofreader and editor, before she sends it to a publisher, hoping to get it published. I'm talking about best sellers, or a book that the publisher has paid a fortune for. I mean you can't be claiming that an experienced editor would hand over some high profile book to a beginner (associate) are you?. "The Associates Available scheme enables SfEP associates to advertise within SfEP their availability for work. It is intended to help them accumulate enough experience to upgrade to become full members. They will then qualify for an entry in the SfEP Directory of Editorial Services.Anyone who belongs to the Society and has suitable surplus work can offer to subcontract it to these individuals. Every fortnight, all SfEP members, associates and corporate subscribers receive an emailed link to the updated list of associates available. The list can only be seen by those logged into the Membersâ area of the website. It shows contact details, qualifications, skills, subjects and experience. For those new to the profession, it is an ideal way to build up experience. Experienced editors joining the SfEP are likely to upgrade promptly and take out a Directory entry, but in the interim may find it useful to appear in the Associates Available list."
I think your "mate" is full of s**t. Why on Earth would the publishers send out bits of Keanes book? It's written by an experienced author in Roddy Doyle, who I would lay odds on has his own professional editor/proofreader. Or was supplied one by the publishers. To claim some random had been sent excerpts is preposterous. Unless your "mate" is actually Doyles editor. Editor's/ Proofreaders need the full book to check for discrepancies, where one part of the text contradicts another. It isn't just about grammar.
To claim you are anything other than a WUM is ridiculous. How the **** could you correct someone else's grammar and spelling? Your punctuation is slapdash and your question-mark key must be broken. Or do you employ another "associate" to do your work for you? please log in to view this image
