Swansealona,
Sorry to moan buddy but I just don't see that this ongoing issue as being browser based or a routing problem.
Don't be sorry, I bet its annoying, but I am only trying to help. I also never said it was definitely the problem mate, but its the very basics of fault finding, start at the very beginning. Even if it may sound silly, try it, rule it out, move on to the next step. By skipping steps based on what one THINKS is the issue, is where you get more confused. So start at the very beginning, rule stuff out, and it can help make life easier when nailing down the problem itself.
I have deleted and reinstalled all browsers on PC and Laptop, reset them to default settings and ran the nude (without any all add-ons or extensions installed), but the issue still persists.
So now we can rule out, with 100% certainty that it is not a browser problem. Which is part of what I was trying to do, help by ruling out the very basics. I know from experience with running sites, many problems are at a user level. Of course that most likely isn't the case here because it affects so many, but even then, it hasn't affected everyone, so it could still be a user based problem, but something that not all users are using, such as a browser, an Internet provider (which was easy to rule out because of the likes of Musty having the problem too)
The message I get is displayed 'instantly on click' which suggests that the server-side-software is failing to recognise my loggin as a member. This could be related to the security software, firewall, antivirus or malware, software on the server being updated, or settings changed to 'paranoid' mode.
Instant click, could still be an issue your end, your security software, your firewall, like I said, it doesn't affect everyone, so there has to be a common thing between all the users who are experiencing the problem. ~We did after all have a user recently mention a malware warning on site, so it could be your security software partially blocking the site.
I also don't think it is a routing issue as the re-rout page displays instantly 'On-click', there is no time-delay to suggest a slow 'hop'. The 'on-click' display, imo, discounts it being a routing issue.
We hadn't been made aware that it was instant loads, we were just told that the site is giving errors, that the server is under too much load and guest mode is disabled. That tends to happen when a server is overloaded, which would result in slow load times, hence my query on routes to the server. You have to understand, we are not all having the problem, so I can only go by what I see people saying. I can't guess that it was instant loads, when the basics of the information are regarding server load issues, which tend to result in slower loadings and time outs.
Also, if our session requests were taking too long due to a routing issue then the server would display a a 'session time out' page, not a registration page.
Not entirely, you could still be connecting to the server, but the routing could have an issue that drastically slows down the transfer rate of information. It doesn't necessarily time out. The ping however can go through the roof and slow down the rate of transfer, after all, one load on the site, your requesting multiple templates, stylesheets, your also running java-script client side. That is an idea, is your java up to date?
I suggest the issue surrounds server-side-security-software which has been changed in some way; new s/w or an update of old. Anti-virus software, Host Intrussion Protection System (HIPS) or malware software could casue this issue making the server not recognise the session.
It could well be, but we go back to asking the question as to why it doesn't affect everyone?
Not saying these are deffo the causes of the problem but suggesting these could cause this same problem to occur.
I know your not stumpy, same as I am not saying the browser and such are the definitive problem, but its purely basics in fault finding. And its the only place to start, as the moment you skip steps, its the moment you make more work for yourself.
