Bloody hell...I know that Sunderland fans are famed for needing a scapegoat at the matches, but it looks like Smug is the scapegoat of the week on here..
Seems to me that he is getting stick for being outspoken and opinionated, which are the very things that promote help promote debate on this board..

    No, it's not a scapegoat

Smug makes more threads boring than anyone else put together on here.

And yet people still queue up to contribute, I guess that what makes this board so entertaining.

One man's meat is another man's poison, and all that <ok>

Seriously mate, 95% of the time threads are derailed, it's from other people calling him a liar. Then it's both of you shut up, followed by Smug who's told to shut up. I'm glad he ignores you and continues. If you can't have a word with the people derailing the thread and give the Smug, the poster who's staying on topic, some protection then you deserve all the extra work Smug gives you. If you don't nip it in the bud from the source, the pages of confrontation to sift through is work you've given yourself imo.

There's a great example on here. Nostalgic squares up to Smug about a previous thread he found amusing, this is despite Smug not uttering a single word to him, both myself and Allen Ben Arfa have both said we've found it amusing yet he said **** all to us.

I think you mods are spot on but you tell the wrong person almost every time Smug has an altercation. You know he won't back down, wouldn't it be easier to deal with it properly?

Well indeed but some peoples reputation goes before them, whilst others get away with it.

True, I'd rather trace the argument back to the start, tell who ever started it to back off and not bother with the dozens of posts of abuse that follows.

    How you doing Billy?

Not true, us mods have backed Smug to the hilt and I completely disagree with that. Both people are warned yes, then the other person is banned. Smug hasn't been because being a head strong lad isn't a crime and though the arguments take two Smug has been afforded a **** load of leniency.

I won't lie I've asked him to let things drop a little more easily than he sometimes does but to suggest he is mistreated is just wrong.

In Smug's case there seems to be a pattern emerging where his often, but not always, outspoken comments are followed by personal insults directed towards him. Smug will then retaliate in kind, and so begins groundhog day once again...
If posters could just argue their corners without resorting to personal attacks then this board would be much the better for it in my opinion..

I've seen it more times than I care to remember fella, Unless you're banning people and not declaring it on the banning thread then I simply don't believe you, not that it matters if I believe you or not. Sorry marra.

Smug's never been banned, a couple of people he's had rows with have been banned. Simple as that.

Sorry, but his grind-numbing discussions are endlessly unequivocal and his bedside manner is all-too-often confrontational, where I do agree -Smug brings more to this board than most/nearly all. There, I said it.

I like his football-based stuff very much and rarely find anything to disagree with, I think we are one of the few on here who still believe Altidore might be the one to Wear The Colours and make us proud.

On the other hand, I don't like the 'other' Smug, who has subtle and sometimes less than subtle digs at others all the time, his replies -typically in debate, are often loaded with inaccurate assumptions and value judgments*, he seems to enjoy ruffling people's feathers that sometimes comes over as boorish. At least to me.

He should be the least surprised by people throwing it back. Personally, I think it matters **** all tbh and I'm sure all agree, this should not be a discussion to assassinate an individual's character, however, as some who has chucked a bit of mud I thought it fair to explain my conduct -to be held to ridicule, or whatever or who cares?

The topic is also valid and therefore open to debate as this is not about a character imho, it affects the shape and form of the community, as Smug's avatar features on nearly every thread, some of them quite prominently.

Perhaps we can have another poll to sort this one out?

    * and before you ask, no, I'm not going to go trawling through threads to support my statements with evidence, this isn't a ****ing court of law ffs and I neither have time nor inclination to do so.

    Not bad marra, ticking ower.

I've had more red cards than Roy Keane, Patrick Viera & Lee Cattermole put together.
But the always let me back on.

Nowt against any of the mods & I think they do a good job.
But I think some are singled out whilst others get away with worse.
Depends if your face fits I suppose.

At the end of the day, I will be myself.
I react on here same as I do in real life.
If some folk don't like me, that's fine.
No problem with that providing they tell me instead of running off twisting to the mod lads.

I refuse to toe any party lines, I'll say things as I them.
Anybody doesn't like it can suck my plums.

The thing is with smug, he loves the board, he loves the banter and anything to do with Safc, especially the fans. He's a bit of a perfectionist, has one hell of a memory and will always stand his ground but does do a lot on here tongue-in-cheek which gets taken the wrong way a lot of times.

I just tell him he's a daft ****, if I feel I need to and that's that. He's a hell of a poster and a credit to our club as a fan in my eyes..<ok>

TBH, he and MR are very similar posters, both as dotty as **** but spot-on..<ok>

I agree mate-I met them both last week mate -had a beer with them - the pair of them were upfront friendly and honest blokes, avid Sunderland supporters and a credit to this forum and the club, ... for the life of me I don't understand why peeps cannot see through Smugs banter its forthright at times but with a humorous tongue placed firmly in cheek.
Shame other posters seem unable to understand this

Only the usual small minded suspects with pathetic agendas, that they always deny, who actually contribute little in the way of topics, threads & banter ....... **** them mate, they're always prowling around looking for some way to trip me up.

Despite an endless list of failures they keep on trying ......... bless <laugh>
