I wanted to call the other players "donkeys," but I thought, maybe Kolo Toure's mum is reading this, I don't want to insult her boy. But, you see, I couldn't include the keeper as a "donkey," partly because he's a good player, partly because the saying (you know, "A keeper who stops everything, an assassin to defend, etc." included a keeper as a non-donkey), and mostly because keepers don't run. Though donkeys don't really run much either. They have the quality of perfect repose.
Told ya! Massive result for you guys tonight, would've added a lot of pressure to your away games especially.
Yep you were right YV, all credit to them. Gerrard was spot on in his after match interview when he said "we have a lot to learn" our years out of the competition and our team compared to 5 years ago took its toll. Especially on the nerves.
I knew that 'Pool would struggle, but ultimately limp to victory (see my prediction on the CL thread). Perhaps, now, the Mousers will begin to understand that I know what I say when they will have to suffer the humiliation of a tonking at the hands of a half-decent side. But, better that, than getting lucky and progressing too far in the competition, and being utterly destroyed by one of the big boys.
"Gerrard was spot on in his after match interview when he said "we have a lot to learn" The only thing the Poool have to "learn" about the CL is that the standard of opponent in all UEFA competitions has increased seriously since 2010. Nowhere is this more evident than in the UEFA rankings. In 2010 Spurs were in CL pot 2 with 58 pts. In 2013 Citeh missed out on CL pot 2 by less than one pt, even though their pts total was 70 odd.
In UEFA terms (comparing the rankings with our own domestic leagues), 'Pool are probably to Barcelona what they ('Pool) are to Crawley Town. Mind you, I'd fancy Crawley Town to beat 'Pool at the moment, so that probably isn't the best analogy I could use.
Ah, yes, but Crawley Town do have a very important advantage over us... strikers. Strikers make a hell of a difference when a side is trying to win a match.
Rodgers out! I know that I said that Liverpool struggled in the league under Rodgers when they were last in Europe, but getting beaten repeatedly when they face teams in claret and blue wasn't what I had in mind. Beaten by Villa without meaningfully troubling their keeper and now 2-0 down against the Spam in 7 minutes? Sturridge doesn't make that much difference, does he? Chorus of 'Luis Suarez, he left 'cos you're ****' from the home fans sum up the performance so far. Another shot on goal saved by Mignolet. Can't be this bad all game, surely?
Says a lot about us though, doesn't it...... We grind out a decent away win against the Spammers and then basically roll over against the Mousers... Hate to say it, but Fat Sam seems to have motivated his team a darn sight better than Poch managed...... Faster, harder, stronger - and that's not a porn film credit!!
Niall Quinn appears to have created a new word for Liverpool's defence in the first half. It's a portmanteau, blending lax and lackadaisical to become laxadaisical. Seems apt. Lucky to still be keeping it close, but it's still a winnable game at 2-1.
The good thing for Mousers is, that they are, once again, true rivals for United, as both seem to be fighting it out in the middle of the table, desperately trying to avoid being drawn into a relegation fight.
