Why should he resign? Would you have expected Cameron to resign in the event of a YES vote?

Yes, although I wouldn't have agreed with it. Most respected political commentators have said that Cameron and possibly Milliband would almost inevitably have had to resign in the event of a yes vote and Joey Jones on Sky reiterated that again today but I never saw the logic in that.

On the other hand the whole reason for the SNP's existence is independence and that has been rejected convincingly by the Scottish electorate - including a huge 60-40 percentage in Salmond's own constituency. I cannot understand why the question of resignation was raised re the UK political leaders but not the man who brought all this about.

Salmond has done a phenomenal job in the face of everything the establishment has thrown at him, banks and industry blackmailing the Scots over job moving out. Most of all I've liked the way he doesn't take crap off anyone.
The upshot is the likely loss of Wales' status as a country within the next 20 years as it will be treated in the same way as regions like North East England, York, Lancaster - only going back 700 years - Cornwall, the Midlands and the South East of England. Scotland and NI will fare better because there are a significant number of Scots and Irish with balls.

I wouldn't say it was rejected convincingly. 45% want independence, and that is more than usually vote for the winner in UK elections. They have also won major extra powers from Westminster's panicking politicians. I don't think Salmond should need to resign. He'd done a great job. His campaign has convinced more people to vote yes. When the referendum was announced only around 30% were in favor, but they ended up with 45% vote. That's pretty good. It shows that the people of Scotland want change, although not all want full independence. I don't see why Cameron should have had to resign either, but he probably would have been forced out. Te problem is that politicians just don't like people having a say. Salmond sought a vote and the people voted. Are you saying he should resign because he offered the electorate a say in how the country is run? He did a good thing and should be applauded.

The size of the no vote was a surprise to the yes vote and a huge margin in politics. 10-4 % is a huge gap and the right choice in the end....

The good thing is that England are going to get the same powers as Scotland and only English MPs will be able to vote on matters affecting England. Goodbye Labour. Finished for good in England. A day to rejoice. Bad luck for Wales though, as they are stuck with them. No matter how much Labour destroys Wales, the Welsh will still vote for them in droves. I even heard that they might abolish Welsh elections because they're a waste of time. Why vote if you have a one-party state.

I think I do. The English never vote Labour so it's good for them that Labour are finished there.

The Welsh always vote Labour even if they are useless. Doesn't that say something to you? Labour have destroyed Education and Healthcare in Wales, But the Welsh will still vote for them in droves? Why?

The English never vote labour? How many Labour constituencies are there in England? I can't even be bothered to check.

Personally I thought he did an excellent job considering Westminster and "The Establishment" threw the kitchen sink at him last week. For me that was the downside of what has been an excellent debate, with the overwhelming majority on both sides behaving impeccably.

Having said that, there could be more benefits for the British regions as Westminster now realises that in order to avoid future devolution/independence claims it should start looking more closely at how it governs the areas outside the M25.

There are more Labour constituencies in London than Wales.

Fully agree Bob, the tactics used by the NO campaign the past 10 days with their blackmailing was disgraceful and publicly confirmed that it's the banks and big businesses that run the puppets in Westminster. The BBC's coverage was diabolical and very one sided too.

This is very likely to happen now, I think Westminster has had a wake up call, and they will not want a close shave like this again that threatens to break up the UK, so the more equitable distribution of wealth to the regions should be a priority, with more devolution for all. Scotland has always had the better fiscal deal for years over England and Wales, but I do see a more equitable and fairer system now on the horizon after this weeks events, epic and a good boot up the proverbial butt of the South East elite!..............<ok>

How wrong can we be! Having just seen the 6 o clock News, it looks as though Dave is running round London like a dog with two cocks, tightening the Tory grip on power!
