I lived and worked in Scotland 88-94 and I love the place. Salmond was talking independence back then so it is not an overnight thought or dream. It is their choice so let them decide, they will choose wisely and friends I have up there are split on this one. I have however pointed out the huge saving each year on the NHS to them, through severe alcohol, smoking and drug related illnesses.

I back it up as a fact that one of my closest friends, a ward sister at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, ex A&E has been telling me of the problems for years. Like I said, it is their call, they will choose wisely..<ok>
 
the people of scotland are more engaged inpolitics hen they have been in a long time. see the difference it makes when your voting on something that matters instead of which eliteist prick is running things for the next 4 years
 
As far as I'm concerned this is the United Kingdom, If Scotland leave it effects all of the United Kingdom, therefore I believe everybody who lives in the United Kingdom should have a vote, not just Scotland.

Are you really asking that? 1. Because the way Politics is conducted has changed dramatically since then and 2. It Effects everybody.

Not at all, Scotland had no say, neither did England or Wales.

We share an Economy <doh> No offence fella but if you knew what you were on about you'd know your posting on a board which is part of a boarder region. It's effects us a hell of a lot more than it does up your own arse. How will it effect Northern Island who trade heavily with Scotland, bet Northern Island never even entered your head. What about Oil reserves? What about Education? I don't mind you challenging my opinion but please offer something back instead of just quizzing me. <doh>

We all know Scotland and the north east get a raw deal politically and things need to change, the Tories are obsessed with london and it's a problem, but that doesn't mean walking away is the right thing to do. I wonder what the people of Dumfries and Stranraer think about it, because it will effect those more than it will ever effect the Scots in Edinburgh and Glasgow.


Fact is the only way an interdependent Scotland will ever work is if you get to have your cake and eat it. Well you can **** off.

Quzzing you? You said it affects you and I asked how, according to you everyone in the UK should be given a vote on whether a nation that has existed for over a thousand years should be allowed to become Independent, did people get a vote on Ireland becoming Independent?

If Taxes rise in Scotland (where you don't live) is that a concern to you? Why should it be? No one is stopping you having an opinion but because YOU personally think Independence may impact upon you it does not follow that you should have any say.

If it is of such massive Import to the rest of the UK people then why did the UK Government not make sure everyone has a vote?

If we give English, Irish and Welsh people a vote why not the People on the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Ex pats in Australia, Spain, Portugal, France, the US or anywhere in the world where Brits live? The Government (The UK one) decided who should vote and there's no changing it, they unlike you realised that the people who are most affected are the People who actually live in Scotland so if you wanted a vote you should have moved here, problem solved.
 
Of course it influences what happens in the rest of the UK..For starters a yes vote tilts the balance of political power in the Tories favour..
 
I say them them have it...Why is England so worried?

They think they can stand on their own two feet, let them try..

Bit of a difference though...The English and Scots have been joined at the hip for far to long.

I hope you vote yes...let's have borders, and passports, etc..

It'll take time to sort a few things out...Then we'll see.

Easy to say Comm, thousands of miles away. This is going to have a massive impact on us as well mate.

It's going to affect people close to the borders in ways most of us haven't even considered.

Financially and tax-wise, I'm quite concerned about it. The city could be hammered by it and that affects us all.

I honestly can't believe the Scots will go for it. Their taxes are gonna go sky high. The SNP are old-school socialists and they're gonna offer free this and free that, and who's gonna pay for it? Scottish taxpayers.

They'll be far worse off and they think oil is going to bail them out. It won't.

They most certainly are not, and as far as I can see, they are far closer to the Tories in their politics than they are to Labour...Just have a check of the privatisation measures they have carried out within their NHS..

Just because they've bought into the NHS market incorporated over the last 20 years doesn't not make them old-school socialists.

It just makes them pragmatic politicians, adopting the hard-line day-to-day operational policies on outsourcing the hotel-side services that are now in place.

They're old-school socialists, looking back to an age that never really existed.

Someone is going to have to pay for all their free services they're offering. And it won't be BP or Shell.
