    Of course. Considering how seriously wealthy Scotland will be with all that oil, England needs us to keep the pound or its value will collapse. They can't afford to lose us.

    This currency argument is a ******ed distraction - how many parts of the Scottish, or Welsh, or Northern Irish economy do you think the BOE look at before deciding monetary policy?

    The BOE will raise interest rates in the next year because London is over-heated - but my house in Belfast hasn't went up in value in 6 years. Why to **** should I be worried about Northern Ireland not having control over its own interest rates should the UK break up, when it currently has **** all control over its own interest rates.

    Oh and the argument that 'your mortgage payments could go up in a free floated Scottish currency' - how convenient is it that they don't mention your mortgage payments could also go down. Look at the strength of sterling compared to countries that actually have natural resource wealth, Canada and Australia - it's fallen off a cliff over the last few years due to quantitative easing. Australia digs a ton of iron out of the ground - the Brits turn up with a wad of notes to buy it - 'um, didn't you just print about 20% of that money, well we'll take 20% more of your money for our ton of iron please'.
