So Di Maria at the tip and Rooney out wide? Rooney can at least run and work hard, as can Di Maria.

well.... if its a diamond then there two forward slots so you pick two of three as in one of RVP, Rooney and falcao will bench warm.

If you play say oh i dunno burnley away you can prob put di maria in one of the two CM roles in diamond but you can't do that v a top half of the table side. It'd waste the pace too.

I've got better things to do with my time than worry about how United might line-up. I'll stick with the certain knowledge that there spending became more and more desperate and that, at first sight, does not address the midfield and defensive problems. What happens to them after this is not my problem

biggest talking point of the day... shooting the breeze no?

If not thanks for that contribution <ok>

Is it? Perhaps we would be better now discussing the relative merits of the Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Everton squads as they will now stand - until January at least!

doubt it. those are already well known.

for example Cheslea only loaned out one odds and sods player that would not fit 25 man squad and are otherwise unchanged really so their merits are well know and most have them marked as favorites for the title.

City are similarly unchanged though negredo leaving has a weakening effect, but it seems pelligrini like dzeko so thats his choice.

arsenal are their usual jokey selves but have just pulled a fast one buying an inferior player to cover giroud and so we know full well how they play.

Evert.. who? again unchanged uninteresting.

Utd have made the biggest moves in and out and in the cold light of day have to be viewed as the side who've been busiest (can't dispute that even if you do dispute effectiveness of actions) thus have the most potential to change thier fortunes.... and if they do then the pundit predictions of 4th preseason mean they are a direct rival and so despite your eagerness to dismiss them merit discussion.

Just seen this team posted elsewhere...

...if that's what they're going with then I can't wait to play them <laugh> #nospine

:emoticon-0159-music Can we play you every week? :emoticon-0159-music

(Spoiler: No, half the team is crocked on alternate weeks)

Phil McNugget on the beeb seems to think Rooney will have to drop back into CM. Personally I'd bench RVP who looks finished

It was May 14, 2012, the day after Manchester United had conceded the title to their neighbours down the road. Sir Alex Ferguson was in bullish mood.
‘We invest in young players,’ he told the gathering at the Player of the Year dinner. ‘That is what we are good at — we’re not like other clubs who can spend fortunes on proven goods. We know that Manchester City are going to pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We can’t do anything about it.
‘We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in those who will be with the club for a long time, who will create the character of the club, who will create excitement for our fans. We are very proud of that and we are going to continue that way"

<laugh>

Janujizz off to Spurs in January.<whistle>

so back to utd.... in the absence of any of the rival fans to tell us their genius thoughts how about this

1. Evans and Smalling are muck, as bad as welbeck and cleverly who they tried to shift. will jones be no 1 cb pick beisde rojo?

2. will Utd revert to 4 at the back?

3. Where will blind play?

4. Is shaw even going to get a game?

5. Is UiR right and mata will still get a sniff?

6. who will play right side? Valencia? rafael?

7. What midfiedl will be selected?

8. which forwards will play?

9. Where will di maria play?

all will be answered by LvG team selections in the next month but for now where are the mystic megs who can use their footballing brains to come up with the best fit from now til christmas?

I must say thats is a very very bad line up in terms of forcing quality into the wrong areas.

Simply put utd need to just drop mata and even think about Rvp

I mean ok.

4-3-3 one of mr van gall's favoured selections.

Surely a 4-3-3 would try

De gea
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Herrera Fletcher Blind?
Di Maria Falcao Rooney

Ok the CMs are a bit turgid but at least ti'd be sold and allow a platform to build on and you could drop out fletcher for mata v lesser sides and play two dmc and one advanced CM.

what I can't see is 3-5-2 working when you buy all attackers. surely you are jsut putting a very average player in for a good un by doing this.

If United drop some of their big names and don't force square pegs into round holes then they may actually get EL!

I think CL is beyond them still, cannot wait for the fallout if that happens after spending £150million. Moyes never god that money and got them 7th, let's see how LVG does...

so if you took this as a pfhackt right then you might say

Rafael Jones Rojo Blind
Fletcher
Herrera rooney
Dimaria
Falcao Rvp

for example

I can see who you might line that up, or swap blind to DM... or stick felliani in or whatever.

I think there is a wee bit too much head in sands on this board on Utd. I think they are a threat for 4th. After all. its 70 points which is as rodgers said 10/15 points won... if they win the next 2 they will fall short but have plenty of chance to catch back up.

The reality is, maybe some don't want to hear it, that LvG got all the backing his reputation merited and has spend and says he needs 3 months. If after 3 months they are playing very well and looking solid but also can score goals they are a threat... period.

thee's banter and there's burying heads in sand IMO...

banter calls Shaw fat or rojo an lb.. or dimaria an expensive RB... but honesty is saying yeah there's a pair of top top players there added to utd.

no denying that they're quality (although Falcao could easily be anothe RVP after having 3 major injuries already), but their team is unbalanced and LVG has yet to prove he can even deal with the prem. United had more than enough firepower to deal with Burnley and Swansea and they ****ed up big time. If they get CL it'll be because either us or Arsenal collapse all by ourselves.

Slight tweak to that...

De Gea
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Herrera Fletcher Blind?
Di Maria Rooney
Falcao

...and it looks better IMO #christmastreeformation

However, I don't see Fletcher playing. Bring Mata back in and play 4231 type system:

De Gea
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Herrera Blind
Di Maria Mata Rooney
Falcao

Pages and pages on Man U's signings complete with mock formations and numerous opinions.....
