Can't see the problem if we are improving the quality of the squad. If the new signings can genuinely offer competition for the first choice players, as opposed to the likes of Jos, then it is still a strengthening and improvement in depth, if not numbers.
Let's be realistic, as much as I wanted him to come good, Gaston is a luxury player who is a bit like Matt LeTiss, but with about half the goals and assists.
