Black Cats manager Gus Poyet is to keep pursuing Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, despite the Italian having refused a permanent move to Wearside telegraph.co.uk
Sunderland are preparing to challenge Arsenal and Tottenham for Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck, amid talk the England international could be on the way out of Old Trafford. Reports earlier this week suggested Welbeck has demanded a move this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football. And boss Louis van Gaal refused to deny the speculation yesterday with rumours mounting the Dutchman has told Welbeck he can leave Old Trafford. ‘The media were not in the room and I do not speak about that because that’s private,’ said the United boss. ‘I know what I said to Danny and Danny knows exactly what I said to him.’ Arsenal and Tottenham are both thought to be keen on the 23-year-old forward, but according to the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats have also entered the race. It looks increasingly unlikely boss Gus Poyet will seal a £14m move for Liverpool’s Fabio Borini, despite the fee reportedly being agreed last month. And with Welbeck having spent a season on loan at the Stadium of Light back in 2010/11, Poyet is hopeful he can persuade the England international to return this summer on another temporary deal.
Don't want just a loan, needs to be a permanent deal or with an option to buy. All that will happen is he has a brilliant season then moves to a top 6 team
If we pay £5million to loan a ****ing player I will be ****ing raging. Unless United are paying his wages, as with the Nani deal.
I wonder who the surprise is because I was talking to this guy in the country who is quite clued up and he said everyone will be stunned, I hope it's not just bollocks.
According to the back page of this morning's The Sun, Danny Welbeck is available on loan for a fee of around £5m and Sunderland are interested despite the hefty price-tag. The England striker has been told he can leave Manchester United by Louis van Gaal and, as well as Sunderland, has been interesting Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur. Gus Poyet has made it clear that Fabio Borini is his first choice and will do everything possible to get the Italian striker to return to the Stadium of Light but with the transfer window about to close could he go in for another former Sunderland loan star? Welbeck had a productive spell at Sunderland under Steve Bruce during the 2010-11 season and would certainly strengthen the left-sided striker role that Poyet is looking to fill, a position where we have had Connor Wickham filling in so far this season. However with Welbeck looking to play as an out-and-out striker and a price-tag of £5m just for a season-long loan, it seems rather unlikely that the 23-year-old will make a return to Sunderland despite our interest and a move to Tottenham is probably more realistic.
Hull will be in the champions league next season, so he will be ok !, Spurs are reported to be interested in a loan Wellbeck.
