Im sure the rose-tinted brigade will say there were no decent strikers available despite the fact that... Falcao Suarez Diego Costa Mandzukic Mario Ballotelii Lewandowski Lukaku have all moved this window. Here's a list of strikers that would significantly improve our squad and could still move in the next 24hrs. 1. Edison Cavani - Would cost a small fortune but the guy has scored 138 goals in his last 4 Seasons. Absolutely World Class. 2. Huntelarr - Prolific throughout his career. Would fit our system and despite being in his 30's is playing the best football of his career. 3. Benzema - Long term target of Arsene's. Unlikley to move as he recently signed a new deal but the arrival of Falcao has put his place at jeopardy. 4. Jackson Martinez - Strong and quick with a very good goalscoring record. 5. Destro - Tall and skillful. Would be a decent backup for Giroud. 6. Negredo - Very similar to Giroud in style, seems ready made for the EPL. 7. Batshuayi - Only 20 but is the biggest prospect in the Belgian League. 8. Llorente - Tall, technical with a good goals to games ratio. 9. Wellbeck - I'm one of the few that actually rates this guy. Not been given a chance in his best position. Mobile and skilful. 10. Benteke - Currently injured but.. looks a FAR better prospect than Sanogo.
Why oh why do we find ourselves in this position again, still needing to buy in two key areas with one day to go ? Okay the striker situation has been foisted upon us with Giroud's injury, but really, Sanogo as back up ? What if Giroud had got injured next week, we'd be stuck with Sanogo until the new year. As for DM, it's clear we've needed to buy a holding midfielder for a couple of years now. Wenger has pulled the rabbit out of the hat before on deadline day, I'm praying he does it again tomorrow.
Firstly, has anybody actually said that there are no decent strikers available this window ? Because I think that's becoming a bit of a broken record to be honest. I'd hoped we would have signed Mandzukic and had been calling for that ever since it was clear that Lewandowski was going to Bayern. Secondly, that's a good list of available strikers. I'd love it if we could go for it big time and sign Cavani, he's a beast of a player and I think he'd be really well suited to the premier league. He'd be just what we need up front. That said, I think Benzema could be a realistic target now that Falcao has gone to RM. I haven't been that impressed with Benzema to be honest, but I still think Wenger could get more out of him. Martinez would be another strong option. At the moment, it's come down to the fact that anybody better than Sanogo would be a good option.
Never mind buying Wilfred Bony for a desperation fee Wilfred Brambell would be an improvement on what we had today
As unlikely as Matuidi is, I don't know that he'd be our best option anyway. The way our midfield looks currently I really think we need someone who is more physically formidable. I know Wenger frequently plays down our average height/build disadvantage, but some kind of balance in the team is still important.
After signing Sanchez so early in the window I can't believe it's been left this late to bring in reinforcements. The world and his dog knew a quality striker was required and that was before Giroud got injured FFS!!! A DM was also needed to give the side some clout, but again nothing so far. Arsenal remain, elusively, just a couple of players short of mounting a genuine challenge. Everyone says the money is there now - so why no action?????
According to the Guardian,Falcao has been offered to us and Citeh for £55million.The problem for Citeh is they can only spend £24million because of FFP and will have to sell players first.
We live in a crazy transfer world where Falcao for nine months would supposedly cost the club £20m in an outright fee and have to pay his £200k per week wages. If this is the case, I don't see any club taking up the offer - even the bottomless pits of money clubs would struggle to justify the expenditure.
£20 million for Falcao on loan for the year is a good deal in my eyes. It includes a fee and his wages, and there are some reports that it could be Euros, not Sterling.
He's a world class striker that would elevate us a step higher and put us in a brilliant position to fully compete for the league and Champions League, the financial pay offs would more than make up for his loan, then there could even be the slight possibility of making the deal permanent if the player pushes for it.
