Think Basel are a decent outfit that make the bigger teams work hard, but they lack the quality to actually win/qualify. Looking at that we should finish 2nd. Should...
Except for when they qualified for the knockout stage at Man Utd's expense in 2011-12 Or when they got six points off Chelsea in the group stage last season
I know they've lost Salah but they beat Chelsea twice last season and knocked us out on penalties the season before. I wouldn't rule them out. Ludogorets are an interesting one, they've obviously done well just to be in the group and surprise packages can either become whipping boys or really cause some trouble. Still, far better them as the 4th seed than Roma. On a side point, I know there's a points ranking system but I don't know how Arsenal are still ranked higher than Dortmund when they got all thje way to the final and regularly finish in the top 2 of their league.
"On a side point, I know there's a points ranking system but I don't know how Arsenal are still ranked higher than Dortmund when they got all thje way to the final and regularly finish in the top 2 of their league." The points are totalled up over a 5 yr rolling window. Goonus CL are guaranteed about 20 ranking pts per season, even though their performance is mediocre. The Poool showed us it takes 3 consecutive seasons out of UEFA tournaments before your rankings get really damaged.
"Would we be in Pot 2 does anyone know?" Finish the Europa campaign this season with 20 odd pts and that would be 95 odd pts. That should be enough. Citeh last season were on 70 odd pts, and missed out on pot 2 by half a ranking pt. The Poool OTOH need to have a stormer this season, otherwise if they qualify for the CL again they will be in pot 4.
We're currently 16th in the UEFA rankings, but Man Utd and Milan failed to qualify for any European football at all, finishing 7th and 8th respectively. We're one place above City, so we'd go into Pot 2.
If you score more goals than we do, you don't merely have a chance of winning, you're certain to win (unless at least one is an own goal).
Really? I'd say Rodgers should aim for that then. Skrtel can have a day off. To others - well aware of Basel's recent record but it still stands that on paper at least we should be aiming for 4-6 points from them. If not, what's the point of being in the group? They are a decent outfit who are very motivated in the CL but they lack real quality.
Clearly, there remain a great deal many delusions left to shatter; and I fear that a very rude awakening awaits most Mousers.
Daniel Agger, who Liverpool fans thought was a £15m target for Barcelona, has rejoined Brondby on a two year deal for free.
I'm starting to believe HIAG. The decline now Suarez has left is evident. We won this game 5-0 last year. But 3-0 will have to do this time.
"I'm starting to believe HIAG. The decline now Suarez has left is evident. We would have won't this game 5-0 last year. But 3-0 will have to do this time." That would mean we will have a 1-0 defeat at Anfield. I can live with that. <progression>
Mousers, what you've got to try to understand (and I know full well that you cannot), is that we were utter dreadful, today. To many players simply did not turn up, and Poch didn't have a plan B. If that is how Spurs are going to play every week, the 'Pool beat a relegation-bound team, today. You certainly did not beat a team that is going to be anywhere near top 4 (if we continue to play like that). In other words, I think your drubbing, last week, at the hands of £ity, is a clearer indication as to where 'Pool stands, post-Goofy, than your win against us, today.
Yawn. We lost 3-1. Last season we lost 2-1. Hardly a sign of doom. Chin up, you've got some big 6 pointers left against the likes of Leicester, Burnley and United
You've been rubbish, not turned up, and made us look good for 270 minutes now in which we've scored 12 and you've scored 0. We will be around top 4. Mark my words.
