They call breakfast, "petit déjeuner" which just really means "small dinner" I suppose, maybe you should check with Toby if that is correct or not. Why do you ask?
My French ain't great Monica but that sounds like a bit of a cop out. Surely "petit déjeuner" is simply a catch all for any French breakfast in general? It could be Croissants and Jam or Ham and Ouefs. I'l im interested in the concept of French Toast seeing as how it seeems to be neither French (in usage or origin), or Toast.
Yes, petit dejeuner is for all breakfasts, which is what I said. Ok, I'll admit it, I was trying to be smart, as I knew you were actually wanting to know what the French called French toast and not what the French called breakfast, which I hilariously managed to make it sound like you meant. Oh how I laughed haw hee haw
But you still don't know what they call French Toast in France? I hate to say this but I think you are simply wasting my time by indulging in whimsy.
Yes, I do know, it is called "pain perdu" which translates to lost bread, as they used to(and still do) use bread that has gone stale or otherwise lost to waste.
What do they call a big breakfast, then? Oh, I forgot, them froggies don't do a full artery hardening fry up. Their loss.
I used to like watching that wee dirty, Denise van Outen on that. I also liked Johnny Vaughan but in a different way to Denise
I don't really call it that, I'm just amazed that I made such a schoolboy error mistake, I should be fine in a couple of minutes though.
