Apparently the press have been briefed. Basics are that we are interested and have been all along. Hernandez and kagawa to go the other way.

So what formation will you play? If you switch to a 4-3-3 then surely one of Mata/Rooney/Rvp will be dropped. Even if you stay with a 3-5-2, it's not really the strongest defensively.

Because buying Vidal means you'll have the best midfield in the league?

Couldnt say. It would certainly be the best midfield weve had in many years. Certainly capable and certainly top 3 in the league at least.

Vidal, Di Maria, Herrera and Mata would be a very strong midfield and having the option to bring Carrick in if we needed a bit of extra calm in midfield isn't a bad option either. We're certainly stronger with Di Maria but Vidal would take us to another level then we'd just be short of a world class centre back.

You still need a proper DM if you want the 4-3-3 formation to work. Carvalho/Vidal/Herrera would be pretty good, only problem is two of RVP/Mata/Rooney would have to be dropped.

Rafael has become massively underrated. Hes pocketed quite a number of stars in his time and simply had a bad year last season. Vidal is a b2b so he would cover for mata in formation 2. Carrick too who is a dm and would be the guy covering rafael when he overlaps.

Put vidal/herrera alongside carrick in bigger games if we need to be more compact. Have mata or di maria at the tip of tge triangle.

Rafael is good at attacking but is not that great at defending like other good fullbacks in england - Azpil, Zabaleta, Ivan etc

It was only a couple of years ago when Rafael vs Bale was being billed as a big clash when we played Spurs. People have very short memories.

Can't see him going to Real Madrid - their midfield is pretty solid - who would he displace? Having said that I see Alonso is going to Bayern Munich, fingers crossed it's hype to boost his (already inflated) value, either that or they want to force our hand after dithering over his knee injury.
