Never thought of Welbeck as a possible target, purely as I think he is out of our league. If we pulled it off, even on loan, then I'd never be able to keep a pair of socks on again. However, if he is to leave MUFC he would not be short of offers. I would reckon he could end up at somewhere like Everton or Spurs most likely. Nice to be linked though.
When I first heard about Wllbeck I thought he's **** and didnt want him...... then sat back and thought about it and realised that was my fall back opinion on him from playing for Man U or England cos hes not good enough for a team challenging for the title or hoping to progress on the world stage but he is more then good enough for us
I'm not saying we won't sign one in this window, just that I'd have thought replacing Long would now be priority one. If worst comes to worst we've still got 6 to choose from until we can get somebody else in.
We have been after an established CB all pre season so we will be signing a CB before the window shuts. On the striker front I would be happy with any of the following realistic targets (in order) Welbeck (on loan, cant see a full deal straight off, maybe a loan could convince hjm) Ings for under 8 mil due to risk of not stepping up Deeney for around 8 mil, will give support to jela, ince or aluko been support striker Rhodes again under o mil, unproven Hooper, under 4 mil, purely for depth Personally I think jelavic and ince could cause serious problems, its just who we have to back them up (I think ince was planned to be longs back up)
Just a thought... With figures of 14-15 million touted about for Welbeck, Southampton may think "well for an extra couple of million we can have Welbeck" and possibly pull the plug on the long deal, who would you rather have? Long for 12.5 million or Welbeck for 14-15 million?
I hate the media why get me excited about signing a player of welbecks caliber when in reality we have no chance really?
West Ham to possibly bid against us? http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/foo...ead-to-head-england-international_207428.html
Heard that Lpool could be interested, but would they want to sell him to a north-west rival? I doubt it. Still think that Rhodes or Deeney could step up to the plate to replace Long
Hopefully Welbeck doesn't wish to be used as a hoofball battering-ram. I think Deeney will cost too much - Watford look good for promotion this season having bought well and tempted Vydra back.
We are a more attractive prospect to Welbeck then West Ham are at the moment. They've had problems between the owners and manager and between the fans and manager. Whereas we've just had problems between the owners and fans.......
It's really nice to know that we have genuine merits here. I still think it's unlikely but if Welbeck is focussed on his footbal over ego and could see the potential to net a bagful, work with a great manager and team ethic & potentially further his England chances then never say never. It's what Huddlestone did...
Is he matey with Brady, Dudgeon and Chester? Bruce has managed him before. Maybe a loan signing with Rhodes as our "blow the cash" signing? I wish.....
Apparently he's good mates with Meyler from Sunderland, I imagine he also certainly spent a lot of time in the academy with those three. As someone's already said little things like that can help... Rhodes & Welbeck, can you imagine
