Probs lazy journos knowing the Borini deal dragging on and the link with Buckley in the past and obvs Gus' history, but thought I'd post anyway http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...y-leaves-Liverpool-s-Fabio-Borini-in-the-dark http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/10/sunde...ve-to-liverpool-striker-fabio-borini-4827967/
Mught have legs Gus Poyet makes £2.5m bid for Brighton star Will Buckley http://t.co/tVZff7wKjb ‪#‎safc‬ ‪#‎bhafc‬ Mega Bucks! GUS POYET is raiding his former club Brighton to bring midfielder Will Buckley to the Stadium of Light thesun.co.uk
Where does he play - is he a winger? Sounds like a safe enough bet at 2.5 but he's not exactly Borini's level (and Bridcutt hasn't set the world alight).
Morning Grandpops, how could this be mind games? Buckley 2.5/3m max. And we had a 14m bid accepted by Liverpool. If Borini saw this remark I think he would wet himself, now if this was Welbeck it may have the desired result. He would be a good fringe player at best but Gus has worked with him at Brighton.
The Brighton fans don't seem to rate him. We'll never get Welbeck he isn't even on the Man U not wanted list. I'd rather go for Sinclair. He was fantastic at Swansea before city and only 3-4 million.
Or even Chicarito/Sinclair for the cost of Borini. Think getting Buckley is a waste of money and wages dependant on length of contract for a player who would be on the periphery at best.
It`s probably just me clutching at straws tbh mate. Disappointed with the Borini carry on and all that. As you say Gus has worked with him and he has tried to get him before. Must have something about him. He might surprise all of us.
Buckley when on form is a very good player (mainly plays RW) but has had constant injury problems in the last 2 years (dodgy hamstrings). Is very quick, decent cross and can score goals. Keep him fit and he's a very good Champ player and still young so could make the step up. Can't see Brighton letting him go for £2.5m though, you'd probably need to double that, especially as Brighton only recently sold Ulloa for £7m so aren't short on cash.
we need to splash the cash on a big signing and if its not going to be borini then we should splash it on someone else. short hasnt shelled out big money for a while and needs to show his intent
whats £10 million on Rodwell??? chickens feed??? Although I know what you mean! Another big signing of a similar ilk will certainly be a very welcome boost!
He`s shown his intent imo. £10m for Rodwell and he`s put £14m on the table for Borini. The fact that it hasn`t gone through isn`t Shorts fault.
The Borini situation needs to be sorted this week, whichever way it goes. Buckley is a long term target from January as far as I can see and not a like for like signing. We lack good wide midfield/winger cover and Gus will know this lads game inside out. It's a good £2.5m spent IMO. I still want Borini but want it sorting this week.
BTW, I think Short has been fantastic again personally and given Gus money to spend without bankrupting us at the same time.
29 mins · @YoungSunEcho The Will Buckley interest definitely appears to be genuine. Not sure what stage of proceedings the two clubs are at though ‪#‎safc‬
