Morning lads, just finished my exams and I'm not sure if I'll get the grades for uni. Was looking into being an engineer in the army as a back up if I don't get in. Anyone got any experience in the armed forces?

Speaking of lezzers, has anyone seen Black Swan yet?
I know it's based around Swan Lake, but it's a hell of a film.
Highlight is Mila Kunis going down on Natalie Portman :emoticon-0115-inlov:shocked::emoticon-0152-heart

Oh nice! I thought it was a soppy chick-flick, not a sloppy chick flick ;) haha

May have a nose at that tonight. lol

I know someone last year who didnt get into their first choice uni, did a gap year - ended up going there the year after because they did well in the interview.

Always an option <ok>.

Prices pretty much triple next year so I may have to sack it off if I don't get in this year

Not at all. Everything you pay back is relative to your wage anyway, and it's obviously taken from your pay packet before you even get the pay-slip (so you don't have to worry about what you'll be paying when you get it at the end of the month).

The price rises won't affect you as much as you think.

been a slow few days has anyone been watching the u17 world cup see our lads have a classic next round the argies should be interesting..... well back to the garden

I spent all day yesterday catching up on gardening jobs (well, digging bushes out), sawing branches off trees, cutting the grass , digging the flower beds etc.

Then varnished the front door and a couple of gates, a couple of trips to the tip and finally took the dogs out for a couple of hours, after a shower I sat down to watch a bit of telly with a few cold cans and woke up in the early hours with the telly still on having only supped half of the first one...<laugh>

The ageing process appears to be catching up with me.

The changes look set to be better for most people, and the people who'll be most affected will be those we're making ****loads anyway. For example with the £9k/y system you're only taxed on earnings over £21k pa, instead of the current £15k pa.

Sounds better than I thought but hopefully I can just get in this year and not have to worry about it :D

It's not so much the paying back that worries people it's the amount of actual debt you gain.

On the current system, I will have to pay back £27000. That includes a maintenance loan and tuition fee. Under the new system I would be paying back £27000 in tuition fees alone.

Edit: In actual fact, the Government may end up paying more than they hoped because people may struggle to pay of the debt within the time frame.

Yeah, but it's not the same as any other debt. For a start, it isn't counted as a debt when applying for a mortgage, etc. Plus, as I said, you don't even notice it, as it's taken straight from your earnings before you get your pay slip. In a practical sense, it's almost as if it doesn't exist; and certainly not as a 'debt'.

I need ABB for my first choice and im pretty sure thats not happening, I completely messed up my physics exam :(

find out if they do a summer school type thing, i know for a few courses at my uni they (used to?) do them, where if you went they'd lower the entry requirements (e.g. ABB would become BCC, i think). Alternatively, fingers crossed that other people have messed up more than you/the course just wasnt that popular this year.
