Rumours are dead in the water at the moment and all that seems to resurface is Agger. Bloody hope not as his injury record is pants and we've just sold someone who had a similar one.
Apparently we never inquired for him, the same with Khedira. Sporting Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho has now come out and scotched the rumours. He told a press conference, reported by MaisFutebol: "For William Carvalho there has emerged still nothing." Wenger insists the Gunners are set in midfield, per Jones: "I don’t know who has put him on the market," he said. "We were never close to signing him, because Jack Wilshere has come back fit and in midfield we have offensive midfielders, we have box-to-box players, we have quite a few." @GuillemBalague - Khedira: Arsenal made no offer whatsover to Real. No wage agreement as he is far too expensive. He has no intention (as yet) to reduce wages 2:18 PM - 8 Aug 2014
With the injury prone Diaby, we surely need another midfielder, the guy can't be relied upon as a midfield option. This already on top of the case that we need a new DMF.
Howedes as well. Dream signing for me would be Javi Martinez but I accept it's never going to happen!
I really hope we sign a CB and a DMF - as I can't see Mertersacker going another whole season non-stop on the back of a world cup and last season playing practically every game! Strength in depth and options will help us kick on...
I honestly think that Wenger is happy to stick with Chambers, Arteta, Flamini, Diaby, and Ramsey in the pivot positions. He also has in mind Wilshere and Ox as (I think) projects to work into in that spot. I also saw signs of a 4-1-4-1 shape at the week-end, which I think really reduces the need for another DM. The original 4 are more than capable of playing in that deep central role. At times we played with 2 #10s and City couldn't handle it. We still need a CB and I think we will fill that first. If we can find another CB that can step up a bit and is comfortable on the ball then I think we will go for it. I think Wenger has seen the teams playing with 3 CB at the World Cup and likes the idea, but wants a very mobile good ball player as the central one of the 3 and wants him to step up a bit. That's the way I saw Arteta playing at the week-end anyway. It wouldn't surprise me to see Monreal playing in there either.
I read somewhere that we will definitely we signing a CB and have 5 options, 3 foreign and 2 British, but will definitely get one of them. I also read that AW doesn't see it necessary to upgrade anywhere else, he's happy that Flamini, Arteta with Wilshere as cover, can do def midfield duties and that now we have Alexis and Campbell our attacking options are now adequate
Big rumours up here you're after Tiote for around £8m. Good player, a steal at that price, but not an Arsenal style player.
