    Gresham St. London.

I dunno if you do PF stuff - I think that's in the Burgh.

One thing about Edinburgh I noticed when I started working there about 4 or 5 years ago was that it was RBSToon - RBS had their Head Office there but they also had at least two offices next to mine in the Gyle and they had another gargantuan thing at Gogar.

ERIN if they want to do business in an Independent Scotland they will have to be close to the capital which as you may know is Edinburgh. I know it's difficult to think out the box and imagine that London is not the centre of the world but for most countries it is not.

Don't take my word for it look at what Scottish businesses say: http://www.businessforscotland.co.uk/

Doesn't that depend on how you measure it?

If it's by GDP it'll all be big countries but if it's by PPP, it'll mostly be small countries <ok>

Certainly some of it is registered in Edinburgh, like Scottish Widows, which is owned by Lloyds is it not?

I'm talking about how everybody on the planet measures it, hence the G20, who have the 20 largest economies on the planet. GDP, is the way forward, certainly for my argument!

The North East of Scotland is where the centre should be. After London and The South we contribute most to the UK economy.

Edinburgh is just a backward looking City smacked up out of it's head.

    Glasgow is far better.

Yeah, it is as far as I know.

I worked for a bank back in 2000 and it was bought over by Lloyds.

Everyone got made redundant within 2 years - they basically bought it, took the brand and eliminated a competitor - the recent acquisitions by Lloyds are a pretty deliberate corporate plan - they had a better book than most other banks over the last few years and have soaked loads of brands up.

My current place inherited some of RBS's insurance book - that's the total opposite, they were just punting off any old ****e that they'd over acquired or, to use Lloyds language "operated as a co-brand".

But that includes China and Russia, does it not?

Their economies are just built on raw scale.

Russia has a bigger economy than Qatar but Qatar is almost infinitely wealthier.

But, for the purposes of your argument (which, I think was related to state buy outs), yes, GDP is more important.

Weird thing is, Iceland (which a certain guy claimed this week was "bust") dealt with their financial crisis entirely differently from us. I think they're recovering faster than any other European country.

But, key to their recovery (and Ireland paying off their bailout) is the very fact that they're small.

Massive countries with big populations end up with bigger outright defecits and, as Obama will testify, their scale becomes a hindrance.

So not the 20 largest economies in the world at all then? I see, you were lying, fair enough, you should have said so in the first pace.

<laugh> I described it as the top twenty without describing per capita fair enough. But it is per capita that is important because it shows the wealth of the people. Looking at countries like Saudi Arabia or the UK thay are very rich but the percapita is low because the wealth is not spread around but is mostly in the hands of a few very people.

Note UK not there another reason for Scotland to become Independent.

I reckon you could look at a list of the smallest economies per capita in the world and there would be a lot of countries in it the size or smaller than Scotland. Not sure what that has to do with anything.
