Not sure if there are any quotes, but it went along the sky sports news ticker saying something along the lines of: "Sean Dyche has said there won't be a transfer for Danny Ings after fears he was being sold having missed last night's game." or similar.
Danny Ings might be a good player for us. I haven't seen too much of him. I would like to see us sign a striker who is proven himself at a higher level than Ings has so far. I am not disrespecting Ings at all, but I feel a little notion of "Saints fan Signs" romanticism in this rumour. Maybe I need to watch some Burnley videos.
To quote Sky exactly: "Burnley manager Sean Dyche dismisses reports linking Danny Ings with a summer move. Ings missed pre-season game against Celta Vigo last night but Dyche confirmed striker had a knock." Not exactly conclusive, but he's put himself in the firing line should they sell.
Ahh fair enough. It could well just be Sky twisting him saying "He didn't play because he's injured rather than because he's off"
Or he can just say "Ings in his last year of contract, we got a good offer and had to accept". Basically taking the blame off him.
Not to mention they genuinely could use the money. Their squad is both ****e and thin, there's only so much one player could do.
Why don't they have money? Championship promotion is worth how much again (according to those who criminally over-simplify the situation)?
As we know, promotion can be difficult. You need PL quality players, but haven't got the income from a PL season. We had a good side and Nicola had to take out a short-term loan.
The guy who sits next to me was talking about Ings all last season, if that helps. So I guess that's at least one fan who'd be delighted. Seems the man has his admirers.
I know a bunch of people who support Championship teams and follow the Championship closely and pretty much all of them say Ings was the best player in the league. It seems we either go for this type of player - young, unproven at high levels but with loads of potenial - or an older veteran with a couple of years left who isn't quite good enough to be wanted by bigger teams. I'll pick the youngun.
Unfortunately, strikers who has proven themselves at a high level and would be willing to come here all fit one of three categories: too expensive (in transfer fees/wages/both), too old, or too crazy.
