Fans tend to forget or write off Lennon but he always finds a way to remain a managers favourite through his work ethic and being a team player, plus he is ideal for the high pressing game.
It's the writing off of Townsend that gets me - in the two England games he played early last season he was the best player on either side by a country mile. His potential is awesome.
Townsend could be someone that has a season when everything goes his way, similar to say someone like David Bentley at Blackburn, who looked awesome for a brief period but I just don't see Townsend as a player who will have any sort of consistency to his game as he likes to dribble with the ball, shoot on sight and be direct. Thats fine if you are scoring goals but otherwise he is no better then Jose Dominguez. Plus he is a terrible team player and is solely interested in his own game. He was elevated into this superstar last season which said a lot about how desperate this country is. Compare him to someone like Sterling who would have a better claim to be being viewed as having awesome potential.
He played very well for QPR for a whole season, was absolutely brilliant at the start of last season (which went to his head a bit I think) and then got badly injured. Sterling is much more likely to be a one season wonder IMHO
Townsend is one of a clutch of players who I am expecting King Poch to bring the best out of. Others include Lamela and Soldado.
With the rumours of Chiriches being moved on to Roma, I wouldn't be surprised to see Veljkovic getting a few starts, certainly in the cups.
He played 12 games for QPR. I'm sure in Townsends head that was a full season but just 12 games! and Yes I know he done well there, ironically I was saying he should be given a chance while quite a few fans (who now rate him) where saying he wasn't spurs quality. Sterling broke through the season before last and was impressive before being burnt out and then returned last year to play to a high standard so little chance of him being a one season wonder.
I would loved to be proved wrong about Townsend but half the time i don't want to watch when he is on the pitch as his selfishness and ridiculous long range shooting just winds me up. At 22-23 it might be a bit late to bash it out of him
I still havent ever seen Mason play. Poch seems to have a bit of a soft spot for him. Is he any good ? What type of player is he ?
According to the worst kind of statto, this is what we should be building our squad around please log in to view this image please log in to view this image All it says to me is that they're as good at passing as each other - but Lennon actually creates goals and tracks back to help his full back, while Townsend does neither. You don't need a radar to say that, you just need to watch them play!
Both sets of stats are damning, but it shows in particular how much less Lennon was going on runs last season.
The part that gets me is that Townsend has 4.15 shots and a goal conversion % of 0, while Lennon has 0 shots but a goal conversion % of 4.5. How did he get the ball in the net, using the Jedi mind trick???
