To be fair to the board, while Lambert was here, winning games, gaining consecutive promotions, they didn't have a great deal to do - or worry about, apart from ridding the club of the burden of external debt. Matters on the pitch pretty much took care of themselves Once he'd decided to leave, the board were of course called into action. With hindsight, they chose the wrong guy to succeed Lambert - although nobody knew that at the time, sanctioned the club's biggest ever transfer spend, and best will in the world, neither RvW nor Hooper got anywhere near justifying their price tags, dithered over removing Hughton until things were pretty much irretrievable and then made a fairly unpopular decision to promote a rookie manager from within the clubs ranks. So when called on to make crucial decisions, it seems unfortunately they've not shown the nous many were giving them credit for. Sorry if this sounds harsh - I'd far rather have McNally batting for us than against us, but to all intents, if you were to take away the (ridiculously high, imho) parachute payments, we're back exactly where we were in 2010 in a footballing sense, though much more secure financially. But on the back of a recent relegation, whereas in 2010, we (and the board) were riding on the crest of a promotion wave. It does make you wonder whether they have learned a great deal in the last 3 / 4 years.
Don't think you can have that attitude (certainly on a discussion board). Otherwise you would have no opinion at all which surely cannot be a good thing.
I'm not at all negative, I just don't support decisions I think are bad. There has been a heck of a lot of that over the past 2 seasons.
In addition talking about things that everyone agrees with is not that interesting. So I tend to avoid those discussions.
No new signing, but Wes Hoolahan look like signing a new 2 year contract. After it looked at one time played his last game for us, can only be great news for us.
Yes, it is great to hear that Wes Hoolahan looks like signing a new 2 year contract and with him so fully committed in the pre-season, it does feel like signing a new player, especially in the ACM role that we've been calling for. For those wondering about Adam's 'man-management skills', this seems to be a pretty good indicator.
As for the 'decision issue', of course you can question whether it's the right one, but just what is the point of rubbishing it once it has been made. Many on here were saying that City should 'get rid' after Wes' transfer request. Would that have been a good decision? Disagree with decisions, by all means, but you can't know whether they are good or bad until the results are known. It's like players going on and on about a penalty decision when it isn't going to change. I was surprised when the decision was made as it wasn't my choice, but I'm impressed with the way the pre-season has gone and that there hasn't been a mass exodus. I'm willing to wait and see what the outcome will be.
Great post, Rick - both of them! I think whoever had been appointed, Adams, Malkay, Lennon, Steve Clarke etc, each and everyone of them would have had their own band of vocal detractors - for whatever reasons. We're not Chelsea or Arsenal, we can't have the best in the world like they can and it will (sadly) always be that way. The only way we'll ever get 100% agreement on coaching staff, playing squad, tactics and substitutions is when we all meet up in many years time beyond the pearly gates. And I bet even then, we'd cause the odd rumble of thunder - being Norwich City fans!
What's the point in endorsing good decisions then? What do we do on here then? Just describe what happened today at Carrow Rd. I can do that by looking at newsnow.
I think it's your saying "I'm not at all negative, I just don't support decisions I think are bad". That very 'not supporting' is itself a negative action. Are you a 'not supporting' supporter then? It just seems to me a bit like the kid down at the playing fields who says, "If you don't do it my way I'm taking my ball and going home". Disagree by all means, but discuss why rather than just making provocative statements.
I give plenty of explanations for my opinions. If you wish to support ideas you don't believe in then that is up to you. Not my cup of tea though and I certainly wouldn't describe the approach as supporting your club.
I see the resident court jester has them all rolling in the aisles with side-splitting laughter - yet again.
To be fair Carrabuh, while I do like reading where you have thought differently, for me the shortcoming and lack of persuasiveness is the distinct lack of explanations for your opinions. You are more likely to make a bold statement without any explanation. They are usually interesting though, which makes up for it, but you do have a habit of saying something and then refusing to actually engage in the substance. That's fine, it's your style of discussion and produces some interesting (and dare I say it controversial...) points of debate, but I don't think you can then claim you also give plenty of explanations. And it's a fine line, I'm aware that I over-explain, repeat points and end up boring people instead!
as i recall, carrabuh slated every single one of lambert's signings as 'lower league rubbish' when we were first promoted, at the height of the feel good factor surrounding the club. he just likes to moan, simple as that.
i think that was in relation to the calibre of player our signings had faced. they didn't serve us too badly, did they?
