There is no doubting the talent, even if he has missed most of the last 2 seasons. The real question is whether his body is cut out for professional football.
I see some similarities with the Cattermole situation here. A real difference maker that just can't stay on the pitch. Believe it or not, Cattermole's personal best in league appearances for the club came last season (24) - pretty amazing when you consider Di Canio had cast him out at the start of the season. In my view, it was no coincidence that we started to turn things around when he came back and he's the only serious CM we've had for the last several years.
Hence, I have set the bar at 25 for Rodwell. Assuming we get him, (remember, it's Sunderland we're talking about here!), he would be an absolute bargain if we could get him on the pitch for more than 25 games. The rumoured 5 year contract is risky, but would really put us in the box seat if he pans out too.
