True, but we didn't have much competition to Boruc last year. I am still sure that Forster will be better, and I doubt we have much chance of stopping Artur going to Bayern anyway.
It's strange. At least here, he has the chance to win his spot. There's no way he'll see the field ahead of the best keeper in the world at Bayern.
I guess it could come down to would he rather be second choice for us (I think Forster should have to fight for his spot personally) or second choice for one of the biggest clubs in World football. Coming towards the end of his footballing career he may choose the latter.
Yeah I wouldn't blame him. Just depends how much he wants to play - but then, I suppose he'd move to a team without a keeper if he wanted to start.
Exactly, he'll play in Cup games, plus around Christmas time when injuries are most prevalent etc. Plenty of first team football here for both Boruc and Forster imo. Hopefully Boruc want's to stay and continue to be pushed for his first choice spot.
Nor Van Dijk, but they left out the vast majority of their first teamers so I'd not read into it. Resting them for the second leg against Legia probably.
Unless... Boruc has already told Saints he wants to leave? In which case, as he'll only be #2 at Bayern, both Artur and Bayern are happy to wait for Saints to get Forster in before proceeding with the deal? I like to think in that instance that Artur is man enough and professional enough to accept that.
I'm not convinced Forster is better than Boruc but hey ho. It's also very rare for a club to have 2 keepers genuinely competing to start. Managers generally like their keeper and CBs to play a lot. Most of the time there's one keeper that's clearly first choice with a second keeper who's decent or better and can play if and when the top guy's form slumps. The problem we had wasn't really Boruc, it was our backups being rubbish. If Forster comes in and Boruc leaves we still need to find a capable backup keeper.
I wonder why Spurs signed Vorm then when Lloris is ever-present? They also have Friedel. Vorm is one of the better keepers in the Premier League.
Boruc's Achilles heel was his distribution..his kicking and clearances were generally poor. His general shot stopping etc was good but gave the ball away far too often for a team trying to keep possession to strangle the opposition
Sounds like we need Boruniga to be lining up with Corkayama who was invented yesterday then! Anyone for a Lambriguez up front?
If Lloris stays (he's been linked with PSG) I would expect him to be clear first choice with Vorm as back up. Very good back up but still back up. Even if they do compete to start it doesn't change the fact it's much more usual to have a first choice keeper and someone who can come in and do a job. Look at the other big clubs. Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Everton all have clear first choice keepers and so do pretty much all other teams. Only Chelsea (and maybe Arsenal? Not sure about them) have genuine top class competition and Cech is rumoured to be leaving Chelsea so that situation may change as well.
Yeah he probably will stay but you never know with a club like PSG - if they're prepared to offer enough money then it may happen.
Benfica conceded 5 to Arsenal yesterday and are currently 3-1 to Valencia. It also looks like they are about to substitute their keeper. Hope that doesn't spur them to go for Fraser; they were allegedly interested before.
They haven't really replaced anyone. They have had a "firesale" that makes ours look like a bit of spring cleaning. They have lost Oblak, Garay, Siqueira, Rodrigo, André Gomes, SÃlvio, Markovic and maybe Enzo Perez & Gaitán to follow, plus their 3 first choice CBs are all injured for long periods
