Slightly off topic as not directly Hull City but which personalities in the football world would you still like around now? Brian Clough and Bobby Robson (passed away 5yrs today) for me.
Can always remember When Garry Parker signed for forest and Cloughie told him to get his hair cut haha.

Any news on our Nick? Not seen anything for months, thought he was going to start managing another team?

Frank Worthington, when I lived in Leicester in the early 70's. Turning up for Leicester games in a white open top Ford Mustand, and alledgedly sha--ing Mrs Peter Shilton

It's actually a better story that that. Horton told Parker to get his hair cut cos Cloughie didnt like long hair, so Parker did and then when he turned up to sign Cloughie told him to cut it even shorter!

I honestly think with Robson people have rose tinted specs. When he was England boss he was viewed by and large as an idiot. People forget this. He's now seen as a loveable old grandfather type but he was hated, especially when he signed a contract with PSV BEFORE Italia 90. The whole country wanted him out there and then. He was mercilously mocked for calling Mark Hately 'Tony' every single time he ever referred to him and then at Newcastle - from where he was sacked for doing a s**te job after spending tens of millions (again people forget this) - he called Laurent Robert Lauren Bacall in a press conference.

Don't let the fact he was nice change history.

I think that was part of his charm, apparently he’d also call Bryan Robson ‘Bobby’

Well yeah, i agree with hindsight and when he was older it was 'cute' and endearing. But when he was supposedly in his peak and managing the country not many people were amused is all I mean.

That's ace if he did call him Bobby.

Good shout. It might be hindsight (again) and if we watched it now it would probably be shamefully amateurish but Saint and Greavsie was essential viewing.

Yeah I miss Nick Barmby too. Surprised he appears to have dropped 100% out of anything football and Hull City related. I at least expected to see him playing in local charity games along with Deano etc.

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/jul/31/bobby-robson-death-football

"A gift for malapropisms and an ability to confuse names became an endearing part of his legend. "Hello, Bobby," he once greeted his England captain, Bryan Robson. "I'm Bryan," the skipper replied. "You're Bobby.""

I actually remember that from the time. Was that the one where Sheff U hadnt won a game all season and they were talking about hopes for the rest of the season ahead.

Bassett says "well, I'd just like to win a game to be honest"
and then Ron replies "We want to win the league, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the European Cup and every single game without conceding".
"Steady on Ron", he says. "Arent you getting a bit carried away?"
to which Ron replies "Well he started it".

I remember even as a lad loving the fact that all the camera crew were in stitches.

I met Ian Ashbee on saturday night, he was a bit pissed. He said that Nick Barmby's a ****, in his words "If you see him tell him I said he's a ****" <laugh>

You say what you like about Robson, but he's one of a very number of English managers to go abroad and have success. The only other one I can think of is El Tel.

Where was he a success abroad? I'll always remember him as the man who replaced Maradona with Steve Archibald.
