They tend have an inflated opinion of themselves and everything about their ****ty club, so I wouldn't take their word as gospel. As a squad player perhaps, but not as a replacement for losing one of our main players.
I don't think O'Neil, if he does come, is seen as a replacement for anybody. On a free, he's just too good to pass up,IMO.
what rick said above he's not a replacement for anybody. he's just a good player who has leadership qualities that we severely lack, can pick a pass, can tackle and can play. you are vastly underestimating how good he is. i reckon he'd walk straight into our starting eleven if truth be told, especially if we play a diamond.
Initially not one I was excited by, but wouldn't be the worst signing providing wage demands aren't qpr standard. Few qpr fans at work talk highly of him, although I suspect that's more for his sending off...not sure they'd be saying the same thing had they lost. I think I just want the younger version but then you don't get the experience.
You should follow me on Twitter, I translated it already this afternoon: https://twitter.com/TheCoveReport/status/494120033875140608 https://twitter.com/TheCoveReport/status/494120142838968320
Okay, here is the full article of the agent of RVW, he says the following: There are clubs lining up for him, but they don't seem to be getting close to what we demand, therefore I think it's unlikely we will see any moves in the near future. Norwich City is cooperating, but they want something in return, which is why many clubs are immediately out of the picture. For RVW it's not just the financial demands but also the competition and club has to do with the decision if he stays or goes. He further states that a loan deal will only be possible if the club is willing to pay 100% of his salary. If not, only a sale will do for Norwich. But if RVW stays, the club has guaranteed that he will get a proper chance to fight for a place in the starting line up. But in the end, the Championship is not the level he prefers to play football. Summary: Demands too high, Norwich wants to sell, RVW not happy with playing on Championship level. I think if he stays and starts to bag a few he'll find the Championship far more enjoyable than most European Leagues and end up glad he stayed.
Well it is his agent speaking out so yea, figures, but RVW is a bit like that, went too soon to Portugal, should've gone to Ajax or PSV instead. Went for big money at Sporting and will probably make the same decision this Summer. His agent is just paving the way for him IMO.
Yes, in spite of what RvW may say on twitter, I feel he'd rather not play in the championship. However, after his showing of last season, I think it's almost guaranteed that no other PL team will want him and he may well be forced to play his football on the continent again. Had we had a manager other than CH last season, then RvW would have had more opportunities to score and I'm sure would've converted some of them.
Very interesting Cove, from what you say it sounds like he's more likely to stay than we thought. I imagine his wages here are still pretty good and finding a European team willing to match it would probably be quite hard. The press here were reporting very different tone to what was said, like he was pretty much gone just a case of where. Shows you can translate the words but lose the meaning.
Not sorry to see him go myself, not quite up to the prem now , but a good addition to a championship squad. Been promoted with his last 2 teams in that division.
Once the season starts, City don't want to be caught out by players leaving. Having another option in midfield would smooth any transitions necessary should Fer and/or Tettey depart, especially as O'Neil can play either CM, RM or the right side of the diamond. Makes sense to me.
We play eight more league games this season don't forget, and with midweek games coming thick and fast we're going to need a bigger squad than we had last season so I think O'Neill on a free transfer would be an excellent piece of business and a complete no-brainer if you ask me.
As mentioned above, Max, O'Neil can play either CM, RM or the right side of the diamond. I'd worry less about Fer and Tettey leaving if we have O'Neil on board. If you have to compare him to a present player, I'd say Howson, though O'Neil is less of a goal threat.
He's decent in the middle, not so decent when he's put wide. Got a good engine on him, & a he's good team man as you saw in the play off final. Not got a goal in him.
HRIMF is right, as he's primarily a CM but has played RM quite a lot. I also think he'd be good opposite Surman in the diamond.
