bit sad really that he will be playing for the team that we are trying to emulate in a way or do similar style, but skrtl has been solid, and was always a case of one or the other.

hopefully it will either be a good fee to reinvest, or better still a deal to get masch back lol.

I like Agger but the time is right.

    Hope he does well there.

It's a shame he's gone on one hand.
On another... he's not really been as good in recent seasons.

He's always seemed like he is just that little bit away from being truly great... but never quite steps up to fulfill it. I wish him best of luck if he goes to Barcelona... sad he's leaving us- but he's not first team anymore.

If we get £10m+ I'd be ok with it. At 29 he should be hitting his peak for a CB but I don't think he's a good as he was when we bought him, injuries have really taken their toll on his form, quality and ability.

With Lovern and Sakho its clear those two are the future CB partnership Rodgers wants to go with, Skrts proved himself last year and Ilori is another I hope to see used more this year. He's a good CB but with those four, its difficult to see a long term future for him. Shame to lose him but easy to cope without him.

    This.

As he gets older, his injury record is likely to worsen too and with Lovren here now we cannot afford to have £70k p/w on the bench or in physio room.

Such a pity he's injury prone, when fit he's a top centre back but that's the problem he is never fully fit. I wish him well.

    Swap for Masch?

why are Barca interested when he's hardly playing for us anymore?

Agree with the general sentiments above but surely if he's good enough for Barca he's still good enough for us.

I think they like players who can't play. They just bought a striker that wont play for 4 months.

New manager has realised that Barca have **** all defenders, except injury prone Pique. They spent £15m on a 30yr old from Valencia <yikes>

I would suggest that the less physical style of play may suit him, with us it will be knock after knock as usual but with Barca he may stay fit.

Don't agree. He'll be a squad player for a team which doesn't exactly focus on defending.

Maybe. It would be nice to see him stay consistently fit and get a good run.

Presumably marking from corners isn't such an issue in La Liga either :bandit:

we'll see.... I don't know why he'd leave camp unless its real but who knows.

My opinion is his legs are not great, his back is in bits, he never strides up and hits a agger style shot much now and really thats why.

I feel if it gives him another 5 years by being in a less physical league good on him.. and 10mil would be great for a 29 year old and reallyo ffset the lovern fee.

Skertl Lovern partnership to my mind right now

Time for him to go. He's not defensive enough for the PL and his saving grace was always his 'ball playing' ability. With Sakho clearly the future LCB option, his injury problems, age and wages, it was time to sell whilst he still holds value. Great servant and I always liked him, I just didn't rate him as a defender as many others here did so I'm fine with him leaving to Barca.

I think he'll do very well there too. They have so much possession that he'll have less to do off the ball and can venture forwards, the league is less physical and they can also push Masch into midfield which'll improve them no end as a a team. Good move for all imo.

I was wondering whether he'll be straight into the first team or on the bench. Yes the Spanish league will be easier on him physically and the climate will help too.

With Lovren in... a much bigger, better built player, a move for Agger probably makes sense. Lovren is maybe better suited to the Prem.

If it goes through then good luck to the lad. But agree with the general sentiment that the time is right.

Think a lot of us had a soft spot for Agger but I think most would agree he seems to have declined in the last couple of years. One thing we cant knock is his commitment to the club do feel he loved it here.
