I’m trying to see the positives in all of this and I’ve come up with a few.

Egil Ostenstad said in his reply to my tweet, the key is the appointment of Ronald Koeman. It’s harder for a new manager to impose his ideas on a team if he comes in to a full roster of players and no money to spend, then he has to work with what he’s got. The situation Koeman now finds himself in is he has space in his squad and an abundance of funds to spend building from the ground up. He has already added two of the best Eredivisie players from the last two seasons and has made it clear that more signings are imminent. We desperately need defenders and Ronald is one of the best and most respected defenders in our generation. The only thing against him now is time. Believe.

And, don't forget, the big plus. We've still got Cork (when I last looked anyway!).

And with the added problem that the said full roster of players believe they've just lost a manager who could walk on water. Koeman could well be happier with what is going on than we imagine...apart from the tight time scale. He was asked recently about coming in and having to deal with a lot of problems...he just smiled and said that it wasn't a problem as he was an experienced manager.

Brilliant post Lff, I made the same point a few weeks ago, although not as well as you put it. You are right, the key thing now is to get some players in, the right ones, and build the team up. Less than 3 weeks to go before Liverhampton, it'll be a tough task, but I reckon the morale in the squad will be up to it and they'll be raring to go. And you know what? If the team get us to mid-table or better and we have a similar clear out next summer, I won't care half as much, because I have learnt that the important thing at the centre of all this **** is Southampton Football Club, and that will go on no matter what happens to the humans involved.

This will break the all-time record fee for a one-legged footballer.

Hope his leg falls off. Makes me so mad that I was pleased to see him enjoying himself on the preseason tour.

Bet Burnley didn't think they'd get their sell on fee so quickly.

Waits until he is fit enough to take a medical, his agents put out to the media that we offered Jay a 5 year deal so that suitors can come in quicker, and maybe worst of all the Physio team have spent 4 months with Jay getting him back on track, all for nothing. Thanks Jay.

We should have left him in the dressing room at the Etihad and told him to make his own way back.

That makes for grim reading and may not be too far off the mark unfortunately.

Anyone for a chant of ''Who Are We?'' one the opening day? Chances are I'm not gonna know half of the players we field!

With us/team losing so many players in a transfer window is unprecedented.

To sell a player who is in the middle of recovering from a cruciate injury will also be breaking new ground!!!! Christ I'm flabbergasted, surely Daniel Levy wouldn't sanction the best part of £20M for this??? Its got to the point I've now gone past being surprised at what the next instalment will be.

I'm sure the bookies are right, Spurs will buy a player with a cruciate injury, absolutely crazy. Hopefully Jay will join a long list of players who were never quite the same player again after cruciate surgery.

It's a shame how they've been working on this for ages, too.
