@Patches O Houlihan
Yes wolves made two bids very close to what you offered us, Clough told the media that it was well below our valuation the same as your is. Fulham recently in the last few days approached us to ask what we are looking for fee wise. The simple point is that we are not desperate for money! We can afford the gamble and if he does leave for a minimal sum or even on a free then we can afford it. Our new owner has pledge a certain amount into the club regardless of current assets. We don't need to sell Maguire to balance the books!......Nice position to be in.
@ Leon T Trout AFC.
If you want to blame anyone for the over inflated valuation on Maguire's head then blame the big boys as per usual. Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal all came sniffing around Maguire after his success in the FA Youth Cup and him breaking into the first team. Nearly every home match was watched by a top scout at one point.
In league one Maguire is still a luxury for us. He has experience well above his age and is more than capable for this standard of football. He lacks consistency as any learning player does, he makes mistakes as any learning player does but never the less he is a top player for our current standard.
I'm an home and away blade and I can I've watched Maguire come on as a player and it has to be said he gets better and better every single game especially last season however he's still a couple of years minimum off the top flight. If he continues to develop at his current rate then he will join Jagielka and Walker as a respected top premiership player. The potential for the lad is there just not yet.
As for promotion. We had a bad start to the season under a manager who to put it bluntly wasn't good or experienced enough. Nigel Clough came in and turned us from a bottom of the league club with very few goals and very few points into a team that only just narrowly missed out on promotion losing only 8 out of 41 games. In addition to this as oyu rightly know Clough took this same failing group of players and turned them round and lef them to a FA Cup semi final beating a handful of premiership and championship opposition along the way. We might have lost against you lot but we scared you and put 3 past you. If the boot was on the other foot and it was me looking at you then I can honestly say those stats have to be admired and give good grounds for promotion.
This season we have brought in 8 decent signings who will strengthen and add much needed quality to certain areas of the pitch. In these 8 players we have also added some much needed experience. You don't take anything for granted in football, promotion is never a gimme just like no game is either but we have the right to be confident. New owner with a big cheque book that he's willing to use, new manager who has proved he can deliver the goods, new players who will give us that bit extra.
@Cheshireles
Ched Evans doesn't get out until October. This whole thing about him rejoining us is all press talk at the minute from what we can see. At the moment he is still convicted of the crime which has split the fans massively. A good few people don't want somebody convicted of such a crime at the club. He is at the minute however launching a new appeal over his conviction due to new evidence that has come to light since his last attempt. If Ched evans overturns his conviction then he is will be an innocent man and rightly as any individual should be allowed to continue his footballing career.
@ Cityswall
If you want to blame anyone regarding valuations then you blame football as a whole. Maguire has 130+ appearances at 21 years old, he has experience within the championship, he was part of a very successful youth set up that romped through the FA Youth Cup, he was a pivotal part of a FA cup semi final team. This adds a great bit of value to him and makes him worth a great deal more than your average league one player. I do think think his price tag however is inflated but like I said this is due to the big boys. When Manchester United scouted him for a while they were rumoured to be lining up a bid for Maguire which is when we slammed the £4m asking price on his head which kept the big boys at bay thankfully. Chelsea then came in last season after watching Maguire in the FA cup, they came to Bramall Lane to watch him a good few times and again were met with a £4m asking price which cooled things. Before these two Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham all scouted him regularly and enquired.

This is why his valuation might be inflated in the first place and why we have kept this price tag.
@Whittlingstick
Not even biting at that pathetic response. We are more than happy with where we are at the moment. We had one of the lowest spells in our history a couple of seasons ago but we have definitely turned a massive corner and are 100% back on the upwards climp and are progressing nicely now. We are a dedicated new owner with plenty of money and he has committed himself to financially backing Sheffield United Football Club with the ultimate goal of getting us back into the premiership. This won't happen over night but with good owners, a great manager and currently a more than capable squad it this level. Things are very much bright for us and we don't need to worry about anyone else.
In regards to Maguire being ready to play in the premiership week in, week out I can honestly say no I don't think he is. He's a great young prospect with a good future ahead of him if he carries on knuckling down and learning but for me he is a couple of years off premiership football at least. He does lack the consistency, he does make mistakes but he's 21 and despite being experience above his age he is definitely still learning his trade. To play in the top flight you need consistency because even the slightest of mistakes and you will get punished. Maguire at the minute wouldn't offer you the consistency that you need.
@Canadatiger
You are interested in him for the same reason that Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham are and that is because potentially he could be a top player. If you are interested in him as a ready made premiership player then as I keep saying I don't think he is ready for this yet.
All of you.....
Not on here to have a pop at you or to play billy big b*ll*cks, I'm just trying to say how it all is from my eyes. Whether you agree with me or not is entirely up to you lot at the end of the day.
