Fletcher is your most natural goalscorer, if he's fit and confident and Gus can keep him that way, he's your best chance of climbing the table.

Wickham will get found out just like most strikers in this division do, in my opinion.

Altidore and Fletcher could actually work in a sort of Heskey/Shearer sort of combo that kind of (best of a **** bunch?) worked for England. Although 2 strikers in a formation is more or less obsolete nowadays in this league!

wickham will get found out ,how does that work then ,tell us all please, hes going to get better and better ,i think hes already been found out in the fact most defenders cannot handle him ,hes quick good control and a big unit ,but no doubt you know how stop him ,and in the mean time his fellow players are doing what ?

My last input into this thread in an attempt to gain a bit of perspective...

If your budget is £20m is Borini good value?

If your budget is £25m is Borini good value?

If your budget is £30m is Borini good value?

My theory is that people's valuation of Borini is based entirely upon Gus Poyet being given a hefty budget. In the last 12 months you've spent around £30m I'd say, if that's the budget for the next 12 months and Borini is the yard stick for player valuation what's your squad going to look like on 1st September?

The time to be shrewd is now, if Borini was going to turn into a £25m+ player he'd have shown a lot more than he has.

Either way, if you're all happy with it then that's all that matters really.

You were doing so well until.

You've based your assumption on what 4 games at the back end of the season? My basis was that managers will get a feel for how he plays and develop a way to stop him, he's not ****ing Messi.

Hahaha, sounds ridiculous doesn't it?

I think Altidore could be a handful though, his size is an asset surely. Wickham could just as easily provide that type of assistance to Fletcher with his size as well, I suppose. So the Heskey part is redundant!

He's not literally pointing fingers obviously, but he's highlighted players exchanging for higher fees (with his 'strange' inference) then he's prepared to do it himself, hypocrite.

He has attempted to distinguish himself using semantics then contradicted his own reasoning for a 'strange' summer, if he's prepared to spend over the odds dramatically, which this transfer is, then he's only adding to the problem of an overinflated transfer market.

Maybe it was inevitable after Sky pumped up the TV money, who knows? Who's bought any bargains thus far?

I'm sure if we had the time we could wait and get Borini for nearer £10 million just before the window closes! However clubs like us are being grabbed by the short and curlies. We don't have time, we need him now! If a team like Everton or Spurs put a bid in for Borini I bet that they could get him for about 8-10 million! They have a squad who will not flirt with relegation, and are teams who have a wider net when attracting players. However our squad is threadbare, we are desperate for players who will improve it, which Borini will, Liverpool know this, hence they have us over a barrel regarding the transfer fee! That's my theory anyway!

Depends on how much Liverpool still owe us from the transfers of Henderson and The Mig and if that debt will be wiped off in this deal for Borini, we may end up paying just a couple of million, who knows ? That would then leave us with a decent budget still for a creative centre midfielder and a centre back.

For a team looking for financial stability, I'd be shopping on the continent. EPL teams know exactly how to fleece each other for their sky money, foreign clubs are desperate for a share of it, they get nowhere near as much money as our teams do, thus better value, if your scouting network is good enough it's a no-brainer.

****off Stu. What you want me to do start saying he's unplayable after a few decent games? Might as well play 0-8-2 when we come to the SoL because Wickham's untouchable.

Jesus.

Well, you'd still be paying £12m, you'd just be expecting less revenue.

That transfer happened what 3.5 years ago now, was it £20m? If you're still owed half and Newcastle got the full £35m up front then you've been had.

Who would you go for for the creative MF? out of interest.

Actually, I wouldnt mind taking Zaha on loan, he'd cost nowt and we could then buy Cristian Rodriguez for a few quid.

He'd probably be available for loan, pacey winger with potential but some question his attitude. He could flourish under a decent manager who could put an arm round him, I ain't too sure Louis Van Gaal's that man to be honest! He doesn't seem the type to me.
