Borini uncertainty...
great start to pre-season
Following mixed reports in the last 24 hours, it is now apparent that despite several well respected Italian Journalists reporting that Fabio Borini has rejected a move to Sunderland after Liverpool accepted a bid from Sunderland, Borini did NOT board the plane with the rest of his Liverpool teammates to their pre-season camp. While this is nothing concrete, it does suggest that he has somewhere else to be. I believe this place to be The Winter Gardens.
On the pitch, Sunderland got off to a great start to their pre-season campaign yesterday with a 5-1 win over Darlington at Heritage Park. Steven Fletcher got himself a brace whilst Emanuele Giaccherini, Connor Wickham and Jordi Gomez also got goals.
Gus Poyet has confirmed that several deadwood players will be off this summer. Hurrah. Poyet said: "I cannot comment on the names, but I think it is obvious that some players will be leaving â and they know who they are. But for the moment they are our players and we respect them. We will make sure they do what they need to do when they are training with us, and as long as they are professional and behave, they will not have a problem being with us. But if we get the players we need, it is going to be difficult for them to play in the next few games. That's for sure. But it's not about being selfish, it's about being professional and getting the best out of the players for the football club."
Poyet also had time to comment ontwo absentees yesterday; Liam Bridcutt and Adam Johnson. There were initial fears that Johnson may be on his way, but Poyet has explained the two are recovering from injuries: "Liam is getting there and we're taking our time with bringing him back. Johnno twisted his ankle on Thursday but it's nothing serious; he could be back on Tuesday or Wednesday."
