Sky Sports saying we're one of a number of clubs interested in Cedric Bakambu

http://www1.skysports.com/transfer/...edric-bakambu-as-standard-liege-fail-with-bid

For those too lazy to open the link:

A number of Premier League clubs are understood to be lining up moves for Sochaux star Cedric Bakambu, after Standard Liege had a bid rejected for him.

The 23-year-old former French Under-21 international has been targeted by Standard, but they have seen a £1.5million bid rejected by Sochaux.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace both showed an interest in Bakambu last season, and they are understood to be amongst half-a-dozen English clubs taking a close look at him.

Bakambu, who has two years left on his current deal, has scored 18 goals in his last two seasons in Ligue 1 - but he is now eager to move on after Sochaux were relegated last season.

Thoughts?

He seems to me to not quite be what we want, which is a first choice, 15-20 goals a season striker, but may be good as another option up front. Price tag probably won't be too high, but with that much competition his wage demands would increase, but again probably not too high.

He fits all the criteria that the club look for in signings so it could happen.

The only concern is that an offer of £1.5m seems an awfully low starting bid.

He's hardly prolific in front of goal and it would be much more difficult in the PL.

But if he was only 2mill and low wages, surely he'd be good as a squad player and another option up front, which tbh we've been lacking ever since Best left (my god that was a long time ago...)

I do agree though, stats aren't great

If we're going to buy him as a squad player then why not give Perez, Armstrong, or Campbell a go?

We need some sort of guarantee of goalscoring ability now like we got with Ba and Remy. The squad is screaming out for it.

No, this is an agent's story to bump up offers from France. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. We may take chances, but we won't be bothering here.

French Shola?

SAFC have just signed Borini for £14 m hehe, chuffed like out, we mean business this season !

As a signing he's good for the squad, but that's an awful lot of money to effectively have the same striker you had last season.
Do you think Ellis will continue to provide the necessary funds for Gus beyond this signing?

At £14 million SAFC have been mugged by Liverpool. Just as we mugged Liverpool over Carroll. Then to replace a reserve striker with a proven international in Remy for under £9million is great business.

Have to agree with this. If offered the choice, I'd take Remy over Borini any day. Remy plus £5million doesn't even take thinking abouit
