    That I have heard.
Okay so apparently Wickham is currently on approx £26,500. He is up for sale at £3.5 million. He has had talks with the club and he wants £42,000 a week for 4 years. Club will only pay that if they off load scocco and graham.

Could be bull but this lad knew about Sheff wed.

I sincerely hope that the above is total bull ****. For years we were paying him £25k a week in return for rock all. Then he has a bit of an Indian summer last season and he wants a wage rise of that extent!!! April fools day was some time ago

Also, £3.5m doesn't ring true. My belief (admittedly based on here say) is that we would get more than that in compensation if he left under freedom of contract at the end of the season

We'd easily get more than that at tribunal, agree.

I think offer him 30k, with a 10 goal target for a rise, if he believes in himself he'd sign.

I can't forget the fact that he's had 5 good games in 3 years.

According to this link he's on 1.3m Altidore on 2.2 which us what Connor wants. He was better than Altidore last season

How many times has he played? He had a run of games where he looked dangerous in all of them. Prior to that I can't remember him playing more than 2 in a row! Not his fault. Badly managed his entire SAFC career until Poyet.

That's one way of looking at it Marcus. Another perspective on that would be that altidore was a big mistake, and not an appropriate bench mark.

I buy this. He looks like the sort who'd believe his own hype. Not worth that amount of money unless he has a full season scoring.

I get what you are saying mate, but what if it is a flash in the pan? People are saying Fletch can't play in a Poyet system, but does Connor have the skills they are saying are needed? I'm not so sure.

I do want to keep the lad, on the right terms though.

Yep... nothing to add to this as an alternate view

O'Shea and Brown were reported to be on 45k, everywhere, when they signed so I'm not sure I believe this site.

Diakite left Lazio for us for 7k a week?

Phil Bardsley was on 14k a week?

    Unreliable.

He's worth it IMO. Simply because he kept us up last season and made the club £50M+

Good idea to offer him £35m and the rest on goal bonuses.

    Edit: or even £35k!

Lol! My son started with a new team last year and he came home to me and said "Dad do you know Gary my coach" I said yeah and he said "he used to play for a team called Sheffield on Wednesdays" he's 23!!! Only joking he's 8.

Apparently wickham's agent was going to accept 32 grand a week so Wickham is looking to bin him lol

    for 42kpw I don't think I want him.

If we signed a player and put him on 42kpw and he had Wickham's record there'd be hell on on this board.

I think its truth in there somewhere....

Its all a game of negotiation. I am fairly sure he wants to stay, but he wants a big pay rise. The club want to keep him but want to keep his wages under control.

We need to get rid of Scocco and Graham, probably Altidore too. Then sign Borini. Were going to play with 1 up top so 3 strikers (Wickham, Borini, Fletcher) are good options.

I am interested to see how this situation develops.

I suppose we should be pleased, in a way, that he's showing confidence & arrogance.

If he can transfer that to the pitch he could be a very good player ....... he has everything he needs.

    That's definite.

All he's done is show that MAYBE he can step up. We don't wanna jump in and be ****ed.

I'd be staggered if Jozy is sold this window, who'd have him? How much of a loss would we have to take? He's got plenty of contract to run for us to try get a player out of him it would be daft to just sell him for peanuts.

Agree on this too, I still have a glimmer of hope for Jozy. There is good there, he's not like Graham etc who are just ****e all round, there's a bit of a player in Jozy.

I think he'll come good, seriously ...... Wickham should've taught us all a lesson tbh.

I also think we'll see Giaccherini play more games and become a Sunderland hero, he has a lot of courage that lad.
