Honda will make its return to F1 next year with the help of a Mercedes-linked company, it has emerged.

For the start of F1′s new V6 era this year, engine manufacturers Renault and Ferrari turned to the help of external suppliers for the design of the actual turbocharger unit.

Renault works with the Austrian company APC Pankl, and Ferrari’s is a bespoke Honeywell turbo.

Dominant Mercedes, on the other hand, designs and builds its very own turbocharger.

But Honda, returning to F1 next year to supply its works V6 to McLaren, will follow the Renault and Ferrari model.

Germany’s Speed Week, and Italian media sources, report that the Japanese manufacturer will have its turbo made by a Tokyo-based company called IHI.

IHI, formerly Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, has solid links to Mercedes parent Daimler, having set up a joint venture in Germany some years ago to design and manufacture turbo units.

Hmmmmm

Over the weekend, rumours emerged on the Twitter medium that Adrian Sutil may well be replaced for his home Grand Prix – in Germany next weekend. With Sauber struggling financially to bring updates to a poorly performing car, Sutil’s sponsors seem to have lost patience with the Swiss manufacturer and will be withdrawing their funding. This termination of sponsorship will need replacement funds quickly and although Esteban Gutierrez brings substantial funds to the team any replacement for Sutil would likely have to do the same.

The most likely replacement that is being suggested is Giedo Van der Garde who has recent experience in Formula One and, it’s believed, has a substantial treasure chest in support of his talents. He is also the current test and reserve driver for the Sauber squad; therefore would not need acclimatising to the workings of the team before debuting for them.

Come on Sauber, give Silvestro a go! That'd bring money like no tomorrow as well.

Could at least put her in for a few FP1's.

Has she got the required superlicence yet?

Do you have to have a superlicense to do FP1? I can't remember if they can use FP1 to get the experience, or only testing days.

I think you can do free practices without a superlicence but you have to drive around with a green rear light on or something? Or did I dream that?

I don't think Suzie Wolf has a superlicence but she has taken, all to briefly, in FP1. So I guess Practice sessions don't require a superlicence?

Maldonado has been given a 1 year extension for next year at lotus. Must be all those good results he's been putting in

he's probably on some sort of performance related pay, the worse he gets the more Lotus get, by the end of next season Lotus will be the richest team on the grid.

Hola Mexico! Will the Peraltada still be in it's original glory?

ahh crap :-

The circuit is likely to be reconfigured from the layout last used when Nigel Mansell won in 1992, with the neutering of the infamous and ultra-fast banked right-hander at the end of the lap, Peraltada.
