We're still going to bring through the youth, and were still going to buy in too. Last year we bought 3 for over £30m, with a similar amount the year before. However we didn't have to buy more players than that because of our academy. We're likely to lose 5 first team players this summer, and we can't just replace them with academy players as we need some experience and more quality that they can deliver yet.

Selling all 5 - which cost us around £10m in total will bring in around £100m. We 'made' that money. It's not needed to cover loans like at Pompey or to get high earners off the books like at, errr... Pompey. We earned that money. It's profit. To me that's not buying success, that's reaping the rewards - or from a pessimistic point of view - compensation. We can argue all day about if they should have stayed, but they aren't going to. It would be suicidal for the club to not spend a large proportion of that money. That will help us develop as a club and keep kids coming here and allowing us to give PL debuts to Sims, Hesketh et al.
but at the same time we're no longer in a position to sign three headline players each season.

we now need to sign three to five senior footballers to maintain our numbers and then maybe add one or two to try and improve.

evolution is off the table this season.

Completely agree with you. I was mainly talking about how we are not a club who relied solely on young players before, and won't be a club who solely relies on buying in in the future, and that spending lots of our lovely new money isn't going to change the way we operate long term. For me, we were 3 or 4 short last year, so we really need 8 or 9 players to come in (although I suspect one or two those may be from the academy).

Sounded more to me like 'no comment'!!!!

It wasn't really a no comment. He said he spoke to him, there have been no bids, he is a Saints player, and will still be a Saints player. I hope I don't look back on here in a months time when he has gone to Arsenal/Spurs!

Lallana is also the "real deal". He has better close control than 90% of British players. He'll do fine at Liverpool, but how well will Liverpool do without Suarez? Contrary to what's been said elsewhere on this thread, a few rare players (Patrick Viera, Roy Keane, Luis Suarez) actually are irreplaceable. Lallana may not be in that category, but he is a rare talent.

Yep. Shame he turned out to be a dick with a good touch.

Does anyone remember when Morgan first arrived and everyone thought he was ****? How times change ey!

Er no! Could clearly see the kid had quality on the ball.

It's a bit like the **** Jayrod got in the first few months of his first season on here. I clearly remember defending him and how good a player he would be for us.

No, but remember thinking it was strange to be spending £1.2M on a player when we were only just able to pay the water/electric bills.

Good old one-goal.
