True to a point, Supers, but Adams already knows the players, has a better management structure around him and the experience of Joe Royle as well. The telling factor though, is the quality of players that he has to work with and a club in good financial shape, not one trying to pinch pennies under Doomcaster.
i wasn't being totally serious rick. whilst true grant had a lot of the qualities it takes to be a good manager he was in a totally different situation in regards to the health of the club, as you say. i don't think anybody can really tell how we'll do next season, especially at this stage of pre season.
Completely agree Rick. I just hope that the so called supporters give him a fair crack of the whip - given what I have seen on here and elsewhere I do fear that the moans and ' calls for his head ' will start if we are not top 6 by the end of September as nonsensical as that would be.
i think overall our fans were relatively patient last season but ended up feeling let down despite that, so although i would echo your comments, i wouldn't expect them to be so accommodating if we start slowly next season. a fast start is imperative if this regime is going to work.
We all want success but in the modern era patience is increasingly limited, be it chairmen, players or fans. I hope that we do stick together because we do not need a repeat of the CH scenario and providing we remain in touch with the play-offs (or better) and play attractive entertaining football in the process then I am hopeful that we shall remain united into 2015. A season of consolidation I think is the minimum requirement and hopefully a top 6 finish.
i'm not sure a 'season of consolidation' is the minimum requirement at all and i very much doubt the board will agree with you either. the absolute minimum, with the players we have, will be top six. anything less than that and its been a huge, missed opportunity.
A good start is important, not only for the points, but for the confidence it gives to the squad. In the Championship under Lambert, City took 13 points from the first 8 games (an average 1.625 points per game). Though reasonable, it wasn't a great start and City were 6th at that point and then had to claw their way gradually up through the table to finish in the second automatic promotion position. The squad will be much stronger this year, though, so I'd guess most will be looking for that kind of a start as a minimum.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Bony depart also ? Maybe the Deeney move might be cover if Bony moves on ?
At least he'd be moving out of the Championship! It'd be strange if after all of the rumours about Rhodes and McCormack, Deeney is the one to move up to the PL.
not so strange - i'd say he is the one that looks most likely to suit prem football in my book - mccormack for me isn't close to prem standard (average champ striker) and rhodes will get you goals, but hardly put in a shift...Deeney has more to his game, and i'd say much more potential. Can't see either of the other two improving their game....
Sorry to pick you up on this gruffnuts, it's not just you... I don't get all this rubbish about Rhodes 'not putting in a shift'. It's not true at all. He's a poacher, yes, and all he really has done for any given club is score goals (at a bloody brilliant average of 28 a season for the last five seasons) but that doesn't mean he's not working hard. To get into the positions he does in the box requires an awful lot of intelligent movement and to find the space he does means that he has to be on the move all the time. Rhodes is not lazy. He has a job and he does it extremely effectively.
