Lovren admitted he wasn't tapped!! He's said that Southampton received an offer from us and it was rejected before he was informed. He's obviously found out, as the media have been reporting our failed bid for a few days now

Oh Lovren admitted it? It must be as true as everything else he is saying.

Not here to wum or anything and feel bit bad that we seem to be going after all your players who got you to a decent position this year. I hope you can reinvest the money from Lallana/Shaw and potentially Lovren to stay competitive and challenge for Europe again <ok>

Just wondering what you guys honestly think of Lovren from a footballing perspective. Do you think he's good enough for a team challenging for top 4 and potentially (hopefully) higher? Can't say I've seen too much of him so what kind of defender is he? Is he dominant in the air? calm on the ball? Good at organising a back 4?

Was your ex wife good in bed? Do her tits sag a bit? Is she an expert at sausage munching?

Jesus.

Never been married <whistle>
Sorry for trying to have a sensible discussion on football <doh>

I just think it is poor taste to come on to a board where we are upset about the behaviour of a player and start asking us how great he will be in your team. If you think that is sensible, I dread to see how you behave at funerals.

How are you going to cope without your only world class player?

Its hardly that delicate a subject is it. Its a player leaving a football club in a bitchy manner, its not exactly rare. Yeah its fine to be pissed off but come on, seriously?

Good player, his all round play is good. The thing that lets him down is he switches off at random moments that end up costing a goal or him commiting a foul. If he can stay consistant he will be a great player for you, but I have doubts he will do.

It will be hard of course it will but United coped ok when they lost Ronaldo so hopefully we can reinvest the money with a couple of attacking players. If Sturridge can continue his good form then we've still got 1 striker getting 20+ goals a season. Not many teams have striker who both get 20 in a season so it's not like you can't win the league or even challenge for the CL place with only 1 scoring striker (heck even Chelsea managed it without 1). We just need to tighten up the defence so stand a chance. We can afford to score 20 less goals next year, if we only concede 30 goals rather than 50.

Sounds a bit like Skrtel. On his day very good, but has moments of lapses of concentration leading to errors which can be costly. Guess at 24 he has the years on Skrtel an can improve and hopefully that'll come with experience. Just bit concered how him and Sakho, both 24 would cope being the first choice CB if neither of them are particularly good organisers.

Yeah I think Fonte covered up a lot of his mistakes last season. Fonte is also far better at organising the back four.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the defence improvement was down to Wanyama.

I think it's quite the opposite, Lovren was very good at marshalling the defence, talking to Shaw alot and Fonte too. He played the high line very well, and made sure that the group pushed up as one etc. I do agree that he does have random moments of switching off. He normally stays on his feet when tackling, especially before he got injured for us. After his injury and loss of form he did dive in alot more, and went off his feet and didn't commit to tackles as much (see Tottenham's goal to go 3-2 up at WHL last season, dived in when if he stood tall the shot would have hit him).

A lot, I think. But we also benefited from the partnership between fonte & lovren
How many partnerships has Jose been part of at Saints? Legend, that boy.

With a solid DM in front of them, Fonte and Yoshida will be fine.

One thing you will gain in Lovren if he signs is someone who is very good with the ball at his feet.

When we beat you at Anfield and you infamously played 4 centre backs we pressed high and made players not comfortable on the ball give up possession. Lovren is not immune to the odd misplaced pass but he has good close control and does not linger in possession like a typical lumbering centre back. His transition from defence to attack was a big asset for us
