We seem to range far and wide on this forum - and have specialist threads for Politics, Gardening, Humour etc - but one thing we seem to lack is a general thread for all non-football sports

In a weekend that sees the climax of Wimbledon - thank goodness that is over - The British Grand Prix and the Tour de France I suspect a lot of us will be tuning into several of these.

Fro my tuppence I think the BBC are totally biased in favour of Wimbledon - for a whole fortnight BBC2 has been almost exclusively focused on Wimbledon and huge tracts of BBC1 have been devoted to it - at the same time - not offering choice for licence payers.

I love watching GPs - and it is one of those sports that you see much better on telly. HOwever agian like all sports that I follow there is nothing to beat actually being there and enjoying the atmosphere. I have not been to the British GP for some years now and unfortunately it has become ridiculously expensive - I last went as a Corporate guest.

Not a big Cycling watcher but like snooker and a few other sports it is something that you can get absorbed in for half an hour or so quite easily. Have been watching the wonderful coverage through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and into Skipton - what an advert that is for Yorkshire.

He still seems to make "rookie" errors - Often in races he pushes where he perhaps needs to sit back and wait a while - as a result he often harms his own race - today's decision by him was poor
 
You are complaining about the tennis taking up air time, but what about the Football demolishing the schedules on both ITV and BBC? Also now the Tour has taken over TWO ITV stations (1&4) for most of the day. The Grand Prix also takes over the channel over the two days. So for the last month we have been subjected to an onslaught of sports. But you cannot please every one. Its a rare occurrence that there is so much sport in such a short period of time. I for one am glad the BBC have sole coverage of the tennis, ITV just ruin in with mispronunciation of names and ignorant rants and useless 'stats'.

The time-lapse footage of the old stand being demolished this summer has been far more exciting than most of the summer sports.

I would much rather garden than watch the tennis - so many bland robot-like players these days and as for the grunters - yuch!

The only F1 I watch is the first few minutes of the actual race - when most of the incidents occur.

I might watch the Brazil v. Argentina Final, but only if it's raining. Roll-on real footie.......
 
My point is that we pay compulsory licence fee money for BBC. They have a duty therefore to give us a broad range yet tennis has for two weeks taken up BBC2 from early morning to late evening and BBC1 from lunch time to early evening - these are their two prime channels - why could they not have put the second match they cover on BBC 3 or 4 or elsewhere. ITV, Sky and even BBC have not shown the World Cup on two main channels simultaneously - even though it is only a one in four years major World event - unlike the annual Wimbledon - which itself is only one of four major tennis tournaments every year.

The tour is only on one channel at a time and has even moved off the prime ITV1 now.

Formula 1 does not take over the channel - it is shown for a few hours. Wimbledon has been having about 20 hours a day - much of that on two channels at once - there is no cpomparison.

I like most sport - even tennis to a lesser degree but BBC have no right to fail to give a choice.

Whether you like ITV or Sky - or even BBC coverage is just personal choice. I happen to like "stats"
 
I have yet to find a sport that is better on TV - you get the better vision of course that comes from multiple position coverage - but there is no substitute for the atmosphere of live sport

Squash? Probably my favourite sport in terms of participation, but it always frustrated me that the facilities for viewing live were so limited...

:) - I have never watched squash - except waiting to play - used to love the game - maybe my faourite participation sport too - could fit a game into a lunch break at work
 
Hamilton maintains the disappointing British sporting summer!

Really needed to beat Rosberg.

As for the Tour de France - lets just hope everyone is clean in Team Sky as it great to see British success in a sport which hasn't always had great coverage.

As for Wimbledon - well its a typical BBC sport in a way and of course easy to show being in London.

I can certainly see why people would be fed up if you didn't like it - mind you meant East enders wasn't on for a night or two..

Sometimes they do mess it up by showing the same game on either channel

BBC and ITV showed the last group games together though.

I think snooker counts as a sport, so I guess pool should too - and reluctantly darts probably can be classified as one !!!!
 
I enjoyed an afternoon watching the Tour on French TV. I started on ITV but they had too many adverts for my liking. The crowds, scenery and weather were fantastic. Why is Yorkie always saying that it is raining? ;)

He is lying - it never really rains in Yorkshire but they pretend it does to keep the likes of you and me out :)
 
I have never liked tennis much and find the average tennis fan to be on another level to a football fan.
Why would a tennis fan queue up all night to watch wimbledon but not be interested in other grand slam events ?
The majority of tennis fans seems to dislike football as well for some reason.
Is it a private school thing or girly thing ?
I am interested what other football fans think of the tennis fans and if others find them a bit irritating.

Given your name, I assume that you like basketball which, as it happens, is one of the few sports I really don't like.

The adverts were awful..... I felt like being a GOM and complaining... fractionally better on eurosport
