A Liverpool fan on Twitter was saying that Saints were a "disgrace" for turning down the money for Lovren and that we epitomised everything that's wrong with British football (by being so greedy).

Ummmmm...........

Even if he went for 25m, they've still bought three of our best players for less than a Suarez.

I think its easier to get a new CB than some-one of Morgans ability though.

I whole-heartedly agree. For his position, Schneiderlin is in the top 5 in Europe. It's hard to find players that do the job he does. Plenty of CBs out there though, if I had to choose between losing Schneiderlin or Lovren it would easily be Lovren. What's more, Schneiderlin is an integral part of our dressing room. He's been there so long and Lovren has only given us a season. Ship him out if he doesn't want to stay but do everything to keep MS. Maya and Jos won't need to step up because we'll be getting 20-25m for Lovren if he leaves, do you think Koeman is just going to bank the money and use what we have?

Think it all depends on his assessment. I still think Maya can do a job but if Lovren goes we need another CB unless Ron feels Turnbull can play a big role this season. He's a top prospect..

No :p. I think he can be 4th choice tho.

I heard that Lovren wants to go from someone who has known him for a long time, but I always take that stuff with a pinch of salt. Hopefully he has learned from Adam's errors, makes no threats, turn up for training and awaits an acceptable bid. The board has already shown that they will sell if the offer matches their valuation. If this all happens, the right way (and thanking people for their good wishes would be an example) then I will feel no worse than I do now. We need to see some signings coming in to raise my spirits.

Dejan has thanked Saints for his birthday tweet..
What does it all mean?! <peacedove>

If he intends to leave, he would be extra nice to the fans beforehand in the hope that we wouldn't hate him too much. If he intends to stay, he would be extra nice to the fans to reassure us.

So we can't take **** from this.

I'd much rather lose Morgan than Lovren. I have far more faith in Cork and Wanyama to step it up than Maya or Jos.

I think we need Schneiderlin, Cork and Wanyama as a formidable midfield. Maybe Yoshida isn't quite good enough (although I still don't think we really know how good he is, he always looks good with Japan), but if not we can buy someone for half what we will get for Lovren.

Morgan is the key for me.

But he said something nice. :p

I never bought into all the CL stuff that Cortese was saying as I just couldn't see how we could do it without significant investment, mainly in wages. In reality this was always going to be the biggest test, when we didn't have CL football but had some players who were good enough for the big clubs to want, whether or not we could keep a hold of them and continue to move forwards. If we could then European and possibly CL football may have been achievable.

All the other things that NC achieved in his time here were good, but not unheard of. Back to back promotions and then staying up in the Premiership first season? Norwich did that a year (?) before us with far less investment. Getting a club like Saints into the CL is virtually impossible and would require either a level of unrivalled loyalty from the players, a very very lucky season or a youth intake and transfer window of freakish levels.

So what has happened with Lallana and/or Dejan? I can't be bothered to read through several pages that have cropped up overnight! Has he/they come out and said something or...?

I have a feeling that our big money signings will come a little later in the window - and will show some ambition. If I were Reed and Liebherr, I'd want to stick one in the eye of all the doubters. Preferably a really sharp one.

I'm not saying huge signings, but more marquee than these Dutch league guys.
