I said in another post somewhere that I expected the departure lounge to be busy - I expect Bassong and RVW are at least two who will be looking to move on although I'd like Ricky to stay (not bothered about Bassong - would be happy to get a fee for him). Keeping Turner (and fit hopefully) is far more important. There will be plenty of comings and goings as the summer plays out.
if norwich signed cristiano ronaldo, carrabuh would probably be annoyed because his main attributes are 'physical'. lets face it, i doubt he's even see lafferty play. now i'm not his biggest fan but he can play football, no question. as for the squad numbers, they, as usual, can be construed however you wish. many players like to choose numbers themselves. olsson, for example, has been 23 before, as had garrido been 18, so i suspect they both chose to not be number 3. martin switched to 5 probably does give us an inkling as to where adams sees his best position (which is a bit worrying as i don't think he is a good centre back). bassong likewise, moved to 30 means he is not going to be a part of the first team squad and whether it is the player or the club doing the 'forcing' is up for debate. rvw moving to 20 also suggests he will be off too. that, or (as i'd like to see it) its a message to buck up his ideas, that he's not first choice but if he wants to stay, he'll need to fight for his place. so far, everything rvw has said in public has shown him in a good light as far as i'm concerned, he doesn't appear to be itching to get out, so this move does look a little as though the manager (or club in general) are trying to force him out, which would be a mistake in my opinion, but it could just be a shot across the bows. i notice wes is still at 14, fer still 10 and hooper still 11. surman 29? - take them as you will...
Martin is good as a utility player but last season there was a spell where he was cost us goals every other game, also he comes across as a weak leader too, perhaps a good character to have in the dressing room but his not a captain. On RVW his been treated like **** by a lot of Norwich fans, but as I've said before give him and Hooper good service and they'll score goals, we desperately need attacking midfielders if Adams doesn't purchase any this window his shot us in the foot.
well i wouldn't bother looking too deeply at lafferty's stats because he hasn't been brought into the team to score 20 goals a season. he's been brought in as a foil
agree with all of that, even about martin, great guy but not the leader we need. i'd certainly keep him though, just not as a first choice centre half. its amazing that a creative midfielder STILL hasn't been brought in. we've been crying out for one for the past three years - i know - i've been going on about it!
If he starts bringing loads of wingers and buying in box to box midfielders I'll put my fist through my front door. It was so obvious last season what problem was. Ideally I'd like to see us sign two Attacking midfielders, a playmaker of some kind, a replacement for Snodgrass and two centre backs. Long ball football here we come absolute elated with the prospect of that
i personally would like to see us become more direct next season. i'm not talking long ball **** - i want to see blistering pace out wide and i want to see the ball progress through midfield much, much quicker. losing snodgrass will help with this.
I'd like to see the midfield play more efficiently neater passing, better positioning and quicker movement, most importantly getting in some players who can unlock stubborn defences and others who have the vision to spot free players. Indecisiveness was our biggest problem, none of our midfielders were intelligent enough to create anything decent or they were not good enough at thinking on the spot, a creative attacking midfielder with a bit of pace and a deep lying playmaker would be perfect, before anyone calls Jonny Howson an attacking midfielder or a playmaker then they need a good slap.
If we could get a full season out of a Fer-Tettey-Howson midfield, with appropriate wide players, we might be ok, but certainly hope to see an attacking midfielder come in, particularly as I can't see those 3 all staying fit. A well rounded creative player to rotate with them would be excellent, but on our budget probably rarer than rocking horse excrement. A Turner-Bennett Cb partnership wouldn't be so bad, particularly as Bennett's penchant for backing off players should hopefully be punished less, would still like a Cb to come in to challenge them both though.
I think Tettey will go, not sure on Fer, Howson will most probably stay, I don't really care much about Johnson as the guy can't even pass to a yellow shirt. We need to seriously invest in the midfield area if we don't then the board are pulling a fast one on the fans, those of us who have a clue know the problem area. Turners injury prone, Bennett I rate, after last season I'm a particularly big fan of Captain Mainwaring (How dare I have the audacity to insult a 'club legend') I'd say get in two centre backs one with decent experience another who can potential play beside Bennett in the future.
i believe tettey has already stated he wants to stay. vital that we keep turner (and keep him fit) because he will be a monster at championship level. we missed him severely last season when he was injured
Just seen there are reports that McCormack has handed in a transfer request... Still would be very surprised if we got him.
No-one replied to this Do we think he's out of our reach? His stock has fallen a lot in the last three years
I think Martin will cope just fine at Championship level. I'd prefer him at right-back but in the Premier League I found him to be a better centre-back. Not sure why that should be the case. Anyway, that leaves us with Turner, Bennett and Martin so I think we only need one centre-back, as long as Turner stays, and I greatly hope he does. Obviously we need an ACM, two if Hoolahan or Howson go. Then a winger to replace Snodgrass, and we're all set. Only signings I'd like to see beyond this point are replacements for players who leave. I can't see Fer staying and we'll need a better left-back than Garrido if Olsson leaves but I'm desperately hoping both will stay. Adams should be telling the lot of them that if they focus 100% on the job at hand right now then they're only 12 months away from all being Premier League players anyway.
For me, that depends on whether RvW is off on the back of his shirt number relegation. I think you do need five strikers in the Championship
certainly not for that price. he has the figures but whenever i've seen him play have been less than impressed.
I'm hoping RVW sticks around, if Lafferty has walked into the club and started shouting the odds over shirt numbers then I feel we have a twat of epic proportions on our hands, just a hunch though, RVW seems to be OK about the number thing though as lame as it all seems. RVW, Hooper, Grabban, Lafferty I'd give Loza a go for things like cup games etc. It's a bit of lazy journalism I hope. We need that type of money to invest squad wide 10 million could get three half decent players in.
with mccormack - this is as good as it gets. he isn't good enough for prem and he's not getting any younger. and in 3 years whoever buys him will likely let him go for 250k. as big a waste of money as you can find, in my opinion.
