Fair enough. I'm just saying, he ain't going to win a Pulitzer, but I understand where he's coming from and I certainly don't think he's a bell-end.

The fault is Lallana's. Blackmore just reported it as a journalist would. Remember he may get info from a Liverpool player now #mayadambreakhisleg. What was he supposed to write...he was being fed stuff suggesting AL wanted to leave and he has. I am neutral on Blackmore, but don't shoot the massenger.

Blackmore reported what he was told as "what I have told". He didn't claim that in a world exclusive that the Board had decided to leave their phone off the hook (how redundant that expression is getting!) for the summer.
I can't see what else he could have done.
"A senior player has made some negative comments about how he feels that he has been treated, but I won't trouble you with them as they are only one side of the argument and the board won't comment"
Would that do?

I stopped buying the calendar when we were in serious trouble and virtually every player disappeared and (unlike now) there was little chance of getting other decent players in...now that was depressing. Calendars should perhaps be made up of action pictures rather than have individual players.

Sorry, let me rephrase. I used "to sell papers" as a generic phrase, which in the modern era also translates to "get website hits". Much like when The Guardian interviewed Lana Del Rey recently they, of course, used the soundbite "I wish I was dead already" which she had a complete flip-out about because she thought that it was out of context. Fact is, it was the headline (either online or in print) that would mean the most people possible would go and read the page - be it on a website (like the BBC) or the newspaper.

Now the BBC isn't averse to using clips like that to drive traffic - granted, not as sensationalist as something like The Sun, or The Daily M*il, but really, come on, of course if he has exclusive access to Lallana, he's going to pick out certain key points and use them to drive a story. That's what journalists do - it's manipulation, but shy of actually manipulating the truth so much it becomes an untruth.

I personally think Blackmore is a good journalist, clearly has good contacts (as evidenced by this, and that's half the job), which is why he's far more interesting than someone like Crook, who lacks the contacts, so is a reactive journalist. Blackmore is proactive, and I fail to see why people are getting cross with him for doing his work well. The more attention he gets to his work as well, the more effectively he furthers his own career too.

Where has he been untruthful?

Interesting story about Lana Del Rey. And maybe she was being naive, but don't you think that's morally dubious, or even reprehensible, behaviour by The Guardian?

Does getting attention and selling papers justify a blatant disregard for moral standards? Andy Coulson clearly thought so, are you suggesting all journalists do? Cos if so, we're all in trouble in the "information age".

Not really. She said it, and repeated it (I've heard the audio). It was the obvious headline for the interview piece.

Crook has said the deal is done, he also said he has been told some pretty explosive stuff which he will say later

Just been told some pretty explosive stuff re: Adam Lallana's departure from #saintsfc which I will reveal later. Deal now done

Let me guess, Lallana has a go at the board, they don't like it and they have a go at him back and it all turns ugly.

I had a dream about ****-beard last night as it happens - he and Rickie 'bantering' at training in Liverpool.

That's a bit excessive isn't it?

@LFC: AL: “Last season, deep down, I was thinking: hopefully one day I'll be able to play in that team. That dream is reality now.” #LallanaLFC ........what a bell end.
