Hence the word "reputation". One year of behaving does not wipe out the previous eight years, It`s like saying somebody raped three women per year for the last eight years but last year they didn`t even rape one <whistle>

Going back to the title of this thread. Is the ban excessive?

No it is not. Disregard that this was an assault during a football match and consider it as an assault on another person.

Third time he had done the same type of assault and guilty in each case. What sentence would a court in most democratic countries have dished out?

Probably at least six months behind bars!

Suarez is a great footballer but a low life human being. One should not discolour the other.

<peacedove> I do not think Liverpool have ever done as much to any player as Luis Suarez
The club, players and supporters gave him the best support he would ever get anywhere.
Sometime we may have to draw the line, maybe this is the time.
People who gets married for better for worse do separate, then divorce. I am going to regard the four months ban of Luis
Suarez as time of separation. Do we apply for "divorce absolute"?
When you love people and they do not love you as much as you love them, then it's not working.

Do we sell Luis Suarez this summer?

    Yes or No?

Ebows are also assault and the likes of Rooney and Fellaini have done it way more than 3 times.

Yes elbows are an assault but that is a grey area because elbows an arms are used to jump higher and thus part of the game. Often difficult to decide if an elbow is deliberate or not. But if used deliberately, elbows are also an assault weapon.
Teeth are not necessary to play football though.

You are a bit delusional on diving Diego.

Case in point. Defenders are the biggest divers in football, them and wide men. When they have the ball in a precarious position and they get touched they go down. Vidic was a **** for it, Cahill is a **** for it. Once they look like losing the ball in a tussle they fall over and because it is in a crucial position the ref will often blow up. This happens in almost every game. I think personally defenders dive as much if not more than forwards. It's actually the same thing as when the ref blows up for anything that even looks like a foul on a keeper.

anyone ever remember a defender getting booked for diving in his own area? It's a 100% punishment risk free action

Players who play out wide, they dive so much, far more than strikers. Hazard must have dived "gone down too easy" about 20 times last season. Often 4 5 times per game.

Are people blind? is going down easy only bad thing if it is a striker of if you are running in on goal.

This is not speculation, this is fact. Diving happens all over the pitch regularly in almost every game of football that is played and yet no one seems to notice.

There are numerous examples of this, players falling over. Everywhere. Just boggles the mind that people choose not to see it.

Sorry but your flawed argument doesn't include the elbows kicks and so on that are clearly intentional and clearly assaults. Convenient that eh. So by your logic, how come the ones we KNOW are not accidental not punished with such severity?

Rooney just kicked someone and the FA went to bat for him, no ambiguity, he assaulted a player from behind, cowardly too. The FA essentially condoned such behaviour by fighting to get Rooney's ban reduced. He did the same thing last season and didn't even get sent off never mind a retrospective ban, his intentional assault against Wigan's MCCarthy, that's 3 times he assaulted players, there are more but lets say 3, where's his 10 game ban?
When asked about Defoe, people try explain away their hatred by saying "Oh Suarez did it twice" as an excuse, truth is, no one's morals were assaulted when Defoe did it, in fact the majority never knew he did it unless they watched that game, I never know until the Ivanovic thing cos the media did not run wild with it. He's English of course, it is manly when English players assault other players.. Even the commentators said Mascerano should man up, they did not say that after the Chelsea game about Ivanovic, even if it was Suarez second offence, they still could have said Ivanovic needs to man up, but nope, poor Ivan was the theme. Evil Suares, but Defoe, it was just one of those things and Mascerano made a meal of it<doh>

Remember Defoe sat there for a second, slowly crawled over to Mascerano and bit him.

Anyone know who was commentating on that West Ham Spurs game, would love to see what they said about Suarez v Chelsea if such comments are out there, just to highlight the sheer hypocrisy.

    Double standards drive me insane

Ok, if you want to go down that route, then consider this. Suarez is a repeat offender at biting and therefore guilty of Common Assault, so your example of 6 months is fairly realistic. However, this is small potatoes compared to the ABH and GBH cases regularly experienced in professional football. ABH and GBH carry significantly higher jail terms. And repeat offenders for ABH and GBH, and there are players who've been guilty of multiple instances, forget about it. Many players would be in jail, even very famous ones, which is why such incidents on the field are treated as outside the law and a consequence of it being a contact sport.

Sell. But at the right price and deal.

Antics aside, he's one of the best players in world football. £70mil plus and I'll be happy. I'd definately take a Sanchez plus cash deal - which to be honest is looking quite likely, considering our links with Sanchez and Barca's interest in Suarez.

**** him to be honest - he may be the best player to have graced the PL for some time, but it has to be time to cash in. Far too much of a liability now.

    You're missing the point.
What we have questioned is not that Suarez's ban is excessive in itself, but that it is in comparison with other acts of violent conduct on the pitch.
As pointed out above, if you elbowed someone in the street that's assault also. What would your courts in "most democratic countries" do then?
We all recognise that Suarez needs to be punished, and are just pointing out that others get off more lightly with things that are equally, if not more, violent and dangerous.
Biting is more newsworthy, of course, because it's a weird and unusual thing to do, and isn't considered "manly" in our society- but saying he's a low-life human being is losing a sense of proportion.
He doesn't go home and beat his wife, or mug old ladies for their bingo money (as far as we know). He committed a stupid act in a sports arena and gets punished within the confines of the sport- nothing more.

The faux outrage at his actions has little to do with genuine revulsion and more to do with tribal point-scoring.

Pity Suarez can't man up and stop biting.
    Only 2 year olds bite.

He was fine for Liverpool last season, no problems at all. Soon as he leaves the club and our support, he ****s up again. I have no doubt that if he's playing for us, we can keep him on the straight an narrow. Given he is easily up there with the best in the world, he needs to stay. Not only is he one of the best, but he has that unique quality of being able to single handily win a game with moments of pure genius.

70mill plus Sanchez, or whatever it is people want, is irrelevant. Sanchez is good but not a scratch on Suarez and honestly, hasn't really impressed me since his days at Udinese anyway. 70mill is a lot, but who do you buy to replace him?
