Someone posted a link on the Liverpool board that you lot were being deluded. <ok>

We are deluded....Saints...?........ Umm It wasn't us that got beaten by div 1 side Oldham against your full side........So prehaps it is Liverpool who are deluded as to their current standing at the moment....Hmmm?

Edit......Perhaps that player you wish to sign may actually change his mind after this display.....<laugh>

bloody hell saints you win a match and you think you are up there with the big guys <doh> you are minnows like most of us who will be trying to get as high up the league as possible....safety is your problem to concentrate on not whether you are as good as the top teams.....you are decades behind and there is more chance of relegation than ever being classed as a big club.....enjoy the ride and see how long you can stay in the premiership like the majority of us as thats the very best you can hope for...

Who said anything about being a "Big Club"

I've really been enjoying Swansea's recent success, but you're making me want to hate them. Is there any chance you could choose a different team to support so I can go on admiring Swansea?

face the reality and not fantasy land... teams like yours and ours will never achieve anything close to what these big clubs can and will achieve in our life time....It will be a struggle just to stay in this league every season and i know eventually we will go back down to the championship and so will you....Lets just enjoy the moment for how long it lasts. we are probably safe for another season but the saints have a bit to do yet and i think you will do it. but dont compare saints as one of the big boys in this league as you like us are nowhere near them....

We all know that but we like having a Chairman with the ambition and wallet to want more!

By the sound of your posting you have not been party to the full exchanges with the Liverpool fans........To remind you...we have been out of the premier for 7 years after a long run of 27 years in the premier. We have never declared we were a big club ever.
Don't knock us because we do have big ambitions.....surely you should know how we feel. You are not in the premier just to make up the numbers.! Surely you want to do as well as you can. We have never said that we will win the league our biggest aim is just to get into the top half a dozen or so, which is viable for clubs of our size. If you cannot see that then your club lacks ambition. How long it will take for us to reach those goals is I agree a matter of conjecture.
If we can establish ourselves we will draw more fans in there is no doubt about that and we need to. Who knows whether we can or no? I would say to you though if you have no ambition to achieve nothing in the premier in all honesty why try to get into it in the first place? The reality may be different but trying to achieve that ambition will be fun. Give it a go..........

We faced reality for 27 consecutive years fella. The last 7 years may only have been a blip. Note, I said "may".

We can live the dream and so should you. You are in a massive catchment area and if Laudrup can keep the momentum up (and you'll probably be in Europe through the cup) then you should be aiming higher. Laudrup could easily succeed in Europe the way he has you playing. Then push on in the league and then think about extending the stadium (is that easy to do?) and before you know it, you are selling out in a 40-50k stadium and competing up there.

Impossible is nothing.

Exactly - as you said, they have a huge catchment area to pull fans from a few years of success in in a row, maybe a cup final or win and and thousands of fans will appear from nowhere. Hell, we had that in L1 - taking 44,000+ fans to Wembly (most any team has taken) for the JPT trophy of all things, with loads of people missing out; we'd take *less* to an FA cup Final because so much more is taken by corperate seats. So the fans are there, it's just a matter of getting them to turn up. I suspect that they are in a similar situation, with thousands upon thousands of casual fans. And they would turn up if we ever manage Europian football and\or competing for a top 6\8 place.
Can we manage to live the dream? Who knows, but having the ambition to try and live it is no bad thing. Giving up and saying "we're a crap team & will never get anywhere or win anything" is a self fufilling prophecy though.

Just looking for the Saint Davide thread when I came across this one.

I'd like to answer this now conclusively with, no, not just yet.

I believe most Saint's fans didn't realise just how ambitious our chairman is until recently!

I'm getting the feeling NC wants us to compete with every team in the premier league to be the best. But on every level possible? Maybe it is a coincidence that we seem to be competing with Liverpool for new players? Liverpool have a number of key players who will need to be replaced with top quality young players so they can challenge for a place in the top 4? Does NC seriously think we can?

So far it has been Gaston Ramirez & Vegard Forren plus the possibility of signing Couthino & Davide Astori in the current transfer window! To me that is quite a bold statement! He wants us to be challenging for a top 4 finish in the following seasons to come! I haven't forgot about our relegation battle but if he signs the players we need in the next week I will be feeling very confident :D

I get the impression he has targeted Liverpool for us to Aspire too or maybe he just REALLY doesn't like them who knows!

Liverpool want to build a new stadium but can they afford it? With us I think the bulldozers would on site now if NC gave the command :D

If Liverpool keep missing out on these talented young players to us then they will just have to accept second rate players! Exciting times COYR's

This is the greatest and at the same time funniest posts given the auld hindsight I have ever read on Not606.

I have no regrets about my post. Definitely quite a change in a year and a half...

Still it's only a matter of time :) if we keep producing top quality players...

Realistically if Saints and Liverpool are competing for the same player on equal terms it is not unreasonable to expect the player to choose Liverpool over Saints is it? Even though Liverpool are not a shadow of their old selves they are still expected to do better than Saints.
Saints however are trying to change that and to prove that they can compete on the same level with the big boys. They are trying to get the kind of team together that can compete with the very best. It is going to take time just as it is for Liverpool to put their team together.
It is strange to see Liverpool fans on here making statements like "You don't hear Our fans carrying on about our past it is other fans that keep on about it"
That simply is a load of cods wallop.....as soon as any smaller club start sniffing around players that interest Liverpool. The first thing your fans say is "why would they choose that team over ours" The inference being we are bigger than you and a better history, get back in your place. Liverpool have had some better results than us and are further up the league but we are in the same league. At this moment in time you do have a small edge but it isn't that big, as you will find out over the next couple of seasons.
Saying "you can't compete with us" is not winning Liverpool many friends down here or with any of the other clubs. The premier league is slowly but surely evening out........The Man U's, City's, not forgetting the Chelski's of this world are finding out just how much more difficult it is to beat the teams in this league. Man u has had some good results and seems to be running away with the league. Yet in truth they shouldn't be, just look at the number of times they have had to come from behind, to get a draw or a result.
The conclusion then is yes we are competing with the Liverpools of this world and they are just going to have to accept it!

HAHA!! Priceless.

All we have learnt is what we always knew. There is a football hierarchy which has existed for decades and the smaller teams hauling themselves alongside these traditional big teams, let alone above them, is more or less impossible to do.

When Saints and Swansea fans were shouting about how they were now equal to LFC and could rival them to players and this was set to continue I just laughed as I've been around football long enough to have known that it was all hot air and wouldn't happen without a Sheik or oil baron, and sooner rather than later the status quo in the football food chain would return.

Good luck with that. I think you'll be waiting a very long time unless you unearth Roman Abramovic mark 2.0
