Since FHB jnr is exactly the same age as Poyet, I tried to imagine how I'd advise him in similar circumstances. I'd tell him there was no rush to decide, and when he made his decision, to follow his gut feeling. Would he be happy to stay where he was? I would guess that in Diego's case the answer to the last question was "no", and quite rightly he did not rush his decision. He does not deserve any abuse at all for making a quite reasonable decision, and I hope that he is thick-skinned enough to deal with it. Obviously I'm disappointed that he's gone, having seen his potential years ago, but all I can hope for is that our club becomes a more attractive prospect for youngsters of his calibre.
It's just non stop abuse, with the odd sensible comment thrown in. The usual stuff about being a judas but followed by lots of words that would be censored should I post them.. A four letter swear word seems to be the most popular.
As is the problem with social media, everyone has an opinion but thinks "theirs" is the right one, and will let everyone know it!
Most of those comments made by people who would not have known him from Adam in January and yet they feel that they now have the right to spit bile at a 19 year old..... Gus must now feel his son made exactly the right decision.
I cannot see RD dipping into his pocket for a statue of Poirot. More likely do a cut price deal for the redundant Michael Jackson one.
Diego favourited my comment, probs the only nice one he got for about an hour. With all the abuse it is just stupid by the fans, whats the point? Diego's not going to care, and it shows the minorty as mugs, constructive things like "could have signed a contract before you were sold" would be ok... not "oh F*** off Judas you C***"
I'm sorry if the headmaster has changed you don't burn down the school. What if every promising youngster did a poyet? Is that the endorsement we want for our academy ? Stay until your picked up - spend all their money use all their facilities and coaching. Once u break thru, delay on a contract blame the new owners and feck off. That is how I see it. I can't see how anyone can brand another fan a mug when a huge revenue stream has just gone down the pooper.
I assume that's at me, I just don't see the point in giving him all this abuse, it won't change his mind, and if anything will make him glad he's gone. Abuse has NEVER worked on Defoe... he gets every bit of stick we can throw at him... I don't think I've ever seen him play against us and not score. Yes, it's a horrible, horrible kick in the teeth, but what is the point of throwing all that abuse at him on twitter etc? Same with Hamer when he went to Leicester, loyal servant for 3 years, not everyone's cup of tea but gave his all, he agrees to go Leicester and boom! Abuse all over twitter and facebook... if Morro hadn't signed on again, would he be getting that same? Yes... pretty sure he would.
It's not really fair to call anyone a mug when this latest departure smacks of treachery and clearly damages Charlton financially and undermines and threatens the entire yoof network. It's not a crime to vent your spleen when someone shats on you. Poyet was playing us for a fool, if he couldn't blame Roly or Riga he would have blamed the colour of the changing room. Why couldn't he come clean and say look, you lot are crap, I'm off to get loads of dough elsewhere. Defoe is a different matter and is a sociopath.
My view on the thoughts of young Poyet: "Two options, sign for a club I've given my all to & helped save from relegation but now without the managers or backroom staff that's helped me develop to where I am now....Or go somewhere else, earn a very good living and stop some Belgium bloke personally profit at the expense of this club. if I make a mistake at least its my mistake" Time will tell, but bile & abuse at a young kid is childish & shows he has more maturity than those calling him an F..ing C...
Poyet is a young man at the beginning of his career. He had to make the decision he felt was the right one for him, and if he did not feel happy about continuing to play in the present environment at the Valley he's not jobbying on anyone. Roland took JR away from a perfectly good job in Italy, parachuted him in to do a job. He did it superbly and was rewarded with being discarded. So that's it at Charlton now- Roland's way or no way. Charlton fans who are taking it as an insult are just wrong.
First of all, cafc have been trying to get Poyet to sign for at least a year. He was balking at signing last summer. This has nothing to do with Roly - how much should he have offered him before he knew Poyet was taking the piss? My dad says I have to go to Chelsea Given my all? Is that 6 months worth? I am a product of cafc, as such I owe them or debt or not? I think you do If everyone acted like this - would cafc have a yoof system In the past players at cafc have a gentlemanly agreement or as it is otherwise known a written contract, that I can leave when the right offer comes along. See jenkinson, Shelvey etc... My dad wants me at Chelsea. I probably am not as good as I think and my development would improve if I stayed and played regulator football rather than at Chelsea. Why don't I play for England or do I have a desire to do everything my dad did. I am surrounded by agents since I was in a nappies and have access to the best advice for me. Roly is a smokescreen for a departure, I don't like the bloke but FFS don't blame him for this. I never use twitter in my life and wouldn't abuse him on it, but I know when someone is taking the piss out of my club.
Yes, Diego gave his all for Charlton from the first moment he was picked. I think the huge role he played in helping us stay up is paying off whatever debt he owes to the club. How do you know it would be better for his development to stay here? We're hardly the best run club at present. How does his departure 'threaten the entire youth network'? I would imagine (I don't know, of course) that he has spent an awfully long time agonising over this decision. I do not think for a single second he is taking the piss out of Charlton, merely that he believes it is the best decision in the interests of his career to move somewhere else. I don't blame RD for his departure either btw. Those Charlton fans on Facebook and Twitter abusing him do this club no favours.
By giving it all you mean 22 games. Your supposed to give it all wants does he want an extra cookie? Why should I be grateful he did what he as paid to do? He has been here 8 years, genetics aside, he has flourished under cafc tutoring. Are you saying that will now stop? We have been in in turmoil for the last 8 years in case you had not noticed? Ive answered this three times, you can't run a system on goodwill. You have to get returns. If every player that was tipped to make it, simply refused to sign a contract and fecked off, the yoof team would implode. How can anyone justify a scheme that don't pay? What does that say to all our kids, mug them about till you get the big bucks. He spent a year being a dick. He was asked to sign a contract in the summer he said no. Slater asked him in November he said no, he has been asked and just run down his contract all the time getting suitors looking at him, he could have signed for two years and done us a favour. This is why people are greeting angry and why our game and country is failing. He has put nothing back. The 22 games he played is scant payment for 8 years of many individuals time and money.
He hadn't even been given a sniff of the first team. Would you sign that contract to not even be near the bench? No, you cant blame him at all for that.
If you asked anyone that knew, not me btw. They would tell you Poyet was ready for the breakthrough last summer but Powell bottled it. So if that is true, and the signs were there, maybe it was Powells fault?
What? Just saying my view on it and just trying to say no everyone is a bad guy and a greedy selfish b*****d?
But he was willing to sign after RD took over but it didn't happen - he then saw wiggins sign up whilst the club went public about contracts to be discussed in the close season. That sent the wrong message, and he's now the 3rd first teamer to leave for nothing.
Do you really think Charlton right now is the best place around for him to continue his footballing development? It's one thing flourishing during your teens whilst playing in youth games, it's another playing in front of 15,000 every week. He could have left before, like Kasey Palmer and Jermaine Defoe did, without playing a first-team game. They gave virtually nothing back to Charlton. Poyet has. Nor did he do what Parker did and destabilise a very good team. I highly doubt you know him personally, so I have no idea how you feel you're in a position to call him a dick.
